The Buffalo Bills were a perfect 4-0 heading into Tuesday night’s game with the Tennessee Titans. However, the Bills put forth their worst performance of the season, getting thumped 42-16. That included a shaky effort from quarterback Josh Allen, who had been in the MVP conversation before the outing.

With Allen looking very ordinary on Tuesday, his NFL MVP odds have dropped to +1600. Is there any value betting him at this number?

Allen Struggles In Tennessee

One of the biggest surprises on Tuesday was the fact that Allen really struggled against the Titans. Even after a solid effort last night, the Titans defense still ranks just 23rd in the NFL in pass defense and still ranks last in sacks after picking up just one against the Bills. Even so, Allen was nowhere near MVP-quality on Tuesday.

Allen had thrown just one interception in his first four games but threw two last night. He finished the night 24-of-41 for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and two picks but the interceptions were game-changers. He threw an interception on the opening series and one more just as the Bills looked like they had a shot at a comeback.

That’s something we hadn’t seen from Allen in the first four games of the season as he was sharp, accurate, and keeping the ball out of harm’s way. As good as he’s played this season, this looked like the Allen of old, which is a little bit concerning.

Likely Just One Bad Game

Twitter was ablaze with all sorts of conjecture as to whether Allen is actually a different quarterback this season or whether he’s merely had a good run. It’s fair to question as his struggles on Tuesday didn’t make sense. At the same time, he’s played so well so far that he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

He did face a weak passing offense on Tuesday and flopped in the matchup but we’ll know more about him in the coming weeks when he faces the Kansas City Chiefs (in Week 6), New England Patriots (Week 8) and Seattle Seahawks (Week 10). Anymore struggles like this, though, and he’ll be out of the MVP conversation.

What’s The Best Bet?

At this point, it’s a good idea to pass on Allen futures because this game will push him back in the race. Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks is playing incredible football these days, throwing 19 touchdowns to just three interceptions, while leading the league in passer rating.

Behind Wilson is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, who has been nearly untouchable this season. Rodgers has yet to throw an interception. Both of those quarterbacks have played better than Allen and both of those teams are still undefeated. Those two players are better MVP bets this at point than Allen.
