Raiders vs Broncos Recent History

Sunday afternoon’s matchup marks the first of two meetings between these teams this season. The Raiders swept the season series with the Broncos last year including a 22-16 overtime win in Denver in Week 11.

Sunday afternoon’s contest marks Jimmy Garoppolo’s debut as a member of the Raiders. Jimmy G joins the Raiders after a chaotic season in San Francisco in 2022, which he started expecting to be traded, and ended with a season-ending injury, with a brief stint as the team’s starter in between.

Garoppolo saw no action during the preseason, raising concerns about rust, but enjoys the benefit of an impressive receiving corps led by Davante Adams, who is coming off a second straight 1500-yard season last year. Garoppolo can also lean on running back Josh Jacobs, who emerged as the NFL’s leading rusher in 2022, and has averaged over 127 rushing yards over his past three appearances versus Denver.

In addition to sporting an array of offensive weapons, the defense finished strong last season, particularly on the road, where they limited opponents to 17 or fewer points in three of their final four away dates.

Denver Broncos Betting Outlook

After falling far short of expectations last season, the Broncos made some major changes during the offseason. That includes a coaching change, with Nathaniel Hackett getting replaced by Sean Payton. One of the major priorities for Payton has been to kickstart a dismal Broncos attack that generated a league-worst 16.9 points per game, while also giving up 31 points per game over their final five contests.

However, with a new coach, an exodus of veterans like rushers Latavius Murray, and Melvin Gordon III, and sack leader Dre’Mont Jones, some patience may be needed as this team adapts to Payton’s systems, and finds its groove. Injuries also don’t help. Receiver Jerry Jeudy has been limited in practice, along with tight end Greg Dulcich.

That likely leaves Courtland Sutton as the best downfield available to quarterback Russell Wilson, who enters the new season with a lot to prove after tossing for just 16 scores in 15 games last season.
