Patriots Aim to Bounce Back Following Crush Loss in Baltimore
The Patriots return to action well rested after enjoying a bye in Week 10, but still have a lot to prove after suffering their first defeat of the season a week earlier in a lopsided 37-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens as 3-point road chalk.
Current AFC playoff teams' opponents records:
Patriots: 24-50
Ravens: 31-36-1
Texans: 41-37
Chiefs: 45-32-1
Bills: 22-47
Colts: 33-38— Sam Mellinger (@mellinger) November 8, 2019
New England had been simply dominant while storming out of the gate to an 8-0 SU record, outscoring opponents by an eye-popping 250-61 margin, and marching to the top of the Super Bowl odds, where they maintain a comfortable perch as +300 favorites. However, the Patriots largely built their fast start on a favorable schedule that featured dates with six opponents that currently do not sport winning records, including a pair of one-sided wins over the lowly New York Jets.
New England Struggling Against Stout Defenses
The Patriots had their hands full against a ferocious defense in a narrow 16-10 win over the Buffalo Bills as 7-point road chalk back in Week 4. New England also saw their defense spend over 37 minutes on the gridiron against the Ravens, with quarterback Tom Brady enjoying little opportunity to get anything going, particularly in the second half, when the Patriots turned over the ball twice on just four total possessions.

The New England defensive line was also pushed around by the Ravens all evening, providing pivot Lamar Jackson with plenty of chances to be creative. The result was the Patriots rush defense’s worst performance in over five years as they surrendered 210 yards and three scoring runs.

Eagles Ride Impressive Two-Game Win Streak
After also enjoying a bye last weekend, Philadelphia enters Sunday afternoon’s Patriots versus Eagles betting matchup at Lincoln Financial Field on a high, following dominant defensive performances in back-to-back wins over Chicago and Buffalo. Consequently, New England must find ways to be better on both sides of the ball, if they are to avoid a third straight outright loss to the Eagles in regular-season action.

Deadlocked with Dallas atop the NFC East standings at 5-5, the Eagles bring an air of desperation to Sunday’s contest. Following their Week 11 clash with New England, the Eagles look forward to a Week 12 date with the surging Seattle Seahawks before the schedule turns in their favor in December.
In addition to their two-game overall win streak, the Eagles have also dominated in two straight wins on home turf. And while the team has averaged 26.5 points during their current win streak, it is the defense that has carried the weight, limiting opponents to just seven total first-half points during that stretch.
Philadelphia Offense Hobbled by Injury
However, injuries have arisen as a major concern for the Eagles on offense. Running back Darren Sproles is gone for the season after suffering a quad injury, while receiver Alshon Jeffrey is confirmed out for Sunday’s contests with an ankle injury, joining DeSean Jackson, who remains in the clinic with an abdominal injury.

That could set the stage for an intriguing defensive battle in Sunday’s contest, which would come in stark contrast to recent regular-season matchups between these two teams, with the OVER prevailing in totals betting in five of their past six. But despite the injuries, and the ever-present aura surrounding the Patriots in every contest they enter, the Eagles remain well equipped to duplicate Baltimore’s defensive effort, making them an attractive value wager as fading 4-point underdogs.
Picks: Eagles +4 (-105); UNDER 44.5 (-112)
