Seahawks Have Struggled Since Starting 5-0

The Seahawks are coming off a big 28-21 win last Thursday over the Arizona Cardinals. That was important because they were a fading commodity over the last month. The Seahawks started the year 5-0 but even with last week’s win, are just 2-3 in their last five contests.

Much has been made of the defense – it’s ranked dead-last in the NFL, giving up 434.9 yards per game – but they’ve actually improved of late. The Seahawks are allowing just 374.3 yards per game over their last three contests, while giving up just 44 points in total in their last two. That’s not bad.

Bizarrely, the bigger issue has been quarterback Russell Wilson. He started the year as a man possessed, throwing 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions in his first five games. He’s made far more mistakes of late with just 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions over his last five. He’ll have to clean those up if the Seahawks are to avoid an upset on the road on Monday.

Eagles Franchise Is In Shambles Right Now

A lot has changed for the Eagles this season. Carson Wentz has gone from being a franchise quarterback to a question mark, their defense has gone from being elite to just OK and their head coach – Doug Pederson – has gone from being one of the sharpest minds in the game to someone who might not have as much job security as originally perceived.

It all starts with Wentz, who has just 14 touchdowns, a league-leading 14 interceptions and a 48.4 QBR that ranks 27th in the NFL. A big issue has been injuries on the offensive line as he’s not getting a ton of time to make decisions. He’s been sacked a league-high 40 times; no other quarterback has been dropped more than 33 times.

At the same time, Wentz has made some really poor decisions even when he’s had time. His MVP-like 2017 season is a distant memory at this point as the Eagles might be thinking about a quarterback change to rookie Jalen Hurts if things don’t turn around for this offense.

What’s The Best Bet?

This is a tricky spot as the Seahawks are the better team overall but they are on the road where they are more vulnerable and their defense is brutal. At the same time, the Eagles are a three-win team whose victories have come against a depleted San Francisco 49ers squad, the Dallas Cowboys and a lucky/miraculous comeback against the New York Giants.

Speaking of the Giants, they handled the Eagles fairly easily a couple of weeks ago. Now the Eagles have lost yet another offensive linemen – one of their best – in tackle Lane Johnson. Tight end Zach Ertz is out, so that doesn’t help matters.

The Seahawks should be the play here but if you’re concerned about laying this many points on the road, the under should work too. The Eagles just aren’t scoring much these days and the Seahawks offense is scoring 29.6 points per game in their last six after averaging 35.5 points per game in their first four.

Pick: Seahawks -5.5
