For the 2nd time in under a week, the Maple Leafs play host to a Western Conference finalist from last season. On Saturday, the Leafs defeated the Oilers 7-4 in an entertaining come-from-behind victory at the Scotiabank Arena.
This time around they do battle with the defending Stanley Cup champion, Colorado Avalanche who are coming into this one after destroying the Montreal Canadiens 8-4 on Monday. Some of the game’s best superstars will be on display for this one on Wednesday, March 15th with the faceoff scheduled for 7:00 pm ET.
You’ll be able to watch this one on TNT in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada. Below, we provide you with the Avalanche vs Maple Leafs odds, plus our best bet and pick for this matchup.
Avalanche vs Maple Leafs Odds
Game Time | Team | Puck Line | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|---|
Wednesday, March 15th | Colorado Avalanche | +1.5 (-200) | O 6.5 (-133) | +120 |
7:00 PM | Toronto Maple Leafs | -1.5 (+165) | U 6.5 (-105) | -150 |
The last eight times these two sides have met, all but one game has been decided by two goals or more. Bouncing back from defeats has been one of the best attributes of the Leafs this season, as they are 17-5-2 after suffering a loss.
Taking that into account as well as the long list of injuries Colorado are dealing with, the Maple Leafs are -150 moneyline favorites against the Avs in the NHL odds. They have an implied win probability of 60% to sweep the season series with Colorado.

Avalanche Finding Comfort Away From Home
Struggling with injuries all season, the Avs were dealt another blow in a definitive 8-4 win over Montreal on Monday night, when Artturi Lekhonen, who was feted in his homecoming and scored two goals against his former squad, suffered a broken finger that will keep him out for multiple weeks.
The Avalanche are dealt another heavy blow with the injury to Artturi Lehkonen. It’s time for Alex Newhook to live up to expectations and gain confidence heading into the playoffs. #GoAvsGo https://t.co/cf2qwXhZHs

No team in the league has had to deal with the rash of injuries to top players that the Avs have had to endure this year, which is keeping them from moving up in the Central Division. Colorado and Winnipeg are neck-and-neck with the Stars and Wild sitting above both teams.
Playing on the road has proven to be a welcome respite for Jared Bednar’s squad of late, especially on offense. In their last six games as visitors, the Avalanche are 5-1, covering the puck line in all six games while also scoring 4.67 goals per contest.
Nathan MacKinnon would likely be a finalist in the Hart trophy odds if he hadn’t missed so much time this campaign.
NHL Point/Game Leaders (Min. 40 Games)
Player | Points/Game | Points |
---|---|---|
Connor McDavid (EDM) | 1.90 | 127 |
Leon Draisaitl (EDM) | 1.51 | 98 |
Nathan MacKinnon | 1.50 | 81 |
Nikita Kucherov | 1.42 | 95 |
Matthew Tkachuk | 1.36 | 87 |
Heading into Tuesday night’s NHL action, MacKinnon only sat behind the Oilers’ dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in points per game. Since the all-star break, the Avs number one center has been on a ridiculous tear, with 16 goals and 27 points in just 17 games.
Leafs Looking to Bounce Back From Disappointing Loss to Sabres
As has been the case all season, Toronto played down to their competition on Monday, squandering a two-goal lead in a 4-3 Maple Leafs’ loss to the Sabres. It was a disappointing result following an emphatic win over the Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada.
On the puck line this season, Toronto holds just a 21-37 season when they’ve been made the chalk in the NHL odds. In their last eight games against teams outside of the playoff picture, they are just 4-4 straight up, while recording a 6-2 mark in their last eight against teams holding down a playoff spot.

The Leafs have filled the nets in the last week, scoring a total of 14 goals in their last three games. When matched up with Colorado, pucks seem to find the back of the net in abundance as the teams have hit the over 12 times in their last 16 meetings.

12/31/2022 | COL 2 – TOR 6 | TOR | TOR | Over |

The Leafs have scored at least four goals in five of their last six games against the Avs. Reigning Rocket Richard winner Auston Matthews has tallied in three straight games and would tie a season-long goal-scoring streak if he finds the back of the net against the Avs on Wednesday.
Avalanche vs Maple Leafs Pick and Prediction
Currently, the Avalanche and Maple Leafs own Stanley Cup odds shorter than +1000, two of just four teams in the NHL to find themselves as that strong a betting favorite.
Nonetheless, for Colorado, it seems as if they’ve been riding the coattails of last year’s championship. Entering Tuesday night’s action, they weren’t even in the top 10 in the overall standings. With another key player added to the infirmary, they’ll be in tough against the Maple Leafs.
Toronto hasn’t lost two in a row since mid-January, always finding the fortitude to rebound from defeat with a win, no matter the opponent. They’ve shown a habit of performing their best against top squads, so our prediction is to take the Leafs at home on the moneyline against the defending Cup champs.
Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs Moneyline (-150)
