  • The Minnesota Wild are -125 home favorites to win Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference opening-round series over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, May 4
  • St. Louis stole home-ice advantage in a 4-0 triumph on Monday night.

The St. Louis Blues were the more dominant team on special teams Monday. That resulted in a 4-0 win that left Minnesota and its fans a little stunned.

On the other hand, Minnesota is seeing the inevitable bounce back in the numbers when it comes to betting Game 2. Some are pointing to the David Perron hat trick as a bit of a fluke. The real difference may have been a healthy Torey Krug, who had three assists and frustrated Minnesota players all night. Minnesota must ignite its offense and find a way to solve Ville Husso, who made 37 saves in Game 1.

As for Game 2 of this best-of-seven set with the Stars, oddsmakers still are willing to run Wild. Minnesota is now set as a -125 home favorite. The Blues do seem to have a blueprint in playing the Wild and have won their previous six meetings.

This series features Kirill Kaprizov who at one point was considered in the Hart Trophy odds, and Ville Husso who should be a contender among the Vezina Trophy Odds.

Husso won 25 games in 38 decisions while posting two shutouts and now a playoff shutout.

St. Louis vs Minnesota Injury Report

The Wild injury report is clean for all intents and purposes. On the other hand. St. Louis did not roster Marco Scandella due to injury but Brayden Schenn did play in Game 1.

There is a possibility that Marco Scandella may be healthy enough but just cannot crack the Blues lineup on defense.

Playoff Husso Has A Familiar Feel

His first taste of playoff success was on Monday night in Minnesota in a hostile environment. Naturally, Ville Husso had no problems at all in the 4-0 win.

Minnesota had plenty of scoring chances but could not solve the St. Louis goaltender on Monday night. At even strength, the Wild had 12 high-danger scoring chances. Ville Husso stopped them all.

Blues vs Wild Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Blues Ville Husso 1-0 1.000 0.00
Wild Marc-Andre Fleury 0-1 .871 4.00

Ville Husso simply continued to do what Jordan Binnington has done to Minnesota in the last 16 meetings and that is mostly win and often.

It does appear like this will be Marc-Andre Fleury’s start as Game 2 approaches barring something unforeseen. Cam Talbot gave up ten goals in two meetings this season versus St. Louis.

Blues vs Wild Game 2 Prediction

The Blues just keep finding ways to frustrate the Wild over and over again. It felt like the same old song and dance once again. St. Louis and its goaltender made the saves in crucial moments. The Minnesota goaltender did not. The Minnesota Wild special teams failed where the Blues’ special teams thrived.

Now, if Craig Berube and St. Louis can keep doing this to Minnesota’s top line and Kaprizov, this could be a short series. Minnesota must find a way to solve Ville Husso early in Game 2 and sustain their level of play in all phases. Anything less will spell a fate similar to Game 1.

Pick: St. Louis Blues Moneyline (+105)
