  • The Bruins vs Devils odds can be seen below, as well as our pick and prediction for this game

For a while, the Bruins and Devils were the best teams in the Eastern Conference, before New Jersey fell back to reality with a resounding thud in the two weeks prior to the NHL’s Christmas break.

These two squads go head-to-head for the second time in a week when Boston visits the Prudential Center on Wednesday, December 28th.

Faceoff for this contest is scheduled for 7:30pm ET in the first half of TNT’s Wednesday night hockey doubleheader, which will be followed by the Golden Knights and Ducks. Boston won their matchup last week, 4-3 and the Bruins are -113 moneyline favorites to handle the Devils once again.

New Jersey will look to put their pre-Christmas struggles behind them and get back to what made them one of the top teams in the league through the end of November. Check out the Bruins vs Devils odds below as well as our best bet and prediction for this game.

Just under three weeks ago, the Bruins and Devils were tied for the most points in the NHL standings with 43 each. Since that date, New Jersey proceeded to lose seven of their next eight, as fans and media debated whether the first two months of the season were just a façade.

Since their struggles are what’s most fresh, the Devils are slight home underdogs to the Bruins with moneyline odds of -108, giving them an implied win probability of 51.92% for this game, while the Bruins are the chalk with odds of -113 giving them a 53.05% probability to win.

Bruins Remain Class of NHL

In one of the more eye-raising stats for the Bruins this season, they’re 0-1-1 against the Ottawa Senators, but have a 27-3-2 record against the rest of the league. With 57 points, the Bruins remain the class of the league, five points ahead of the Hurricanes.

Despite peppering Cam Talbot with 51 shots last night, the Bruins fell to the Senators 3-2 in a shootout. While they strangely have struggled against the Sens, Boston has owned the Devils as of late.

The Bruins have taken six of the last seven meetings between these two squads, outscoring New Jersey 33-17 in those contests. Although most people think defense when you think of the Bruins, they have hit the over in each of their last five games against the Devils.

Having said that, the Bruins are still the stingiest team in the NHL this year. Allowing just 2.18 goals per game as a team, Vezina Trophy odds favorite, Linus Ullmark will get the nod in goal on the second half of a back-to-back after Jeremy Swayman started yesterday’s game.

Is the Devils’ Offense Back?

One of the main reasons for the Devils’ mid-December swoon was their lack of scoring. During their 1-6-1 run, New Jersey scored just 19 goals, an average of 2.38 per game, a full goal below their season average for scoring on the season.

They have gone under the betting total in the NHL odds, in five of their last six games, although they did manage to hit the over in their last game. After allowing four second period goals to the Bruins last time out, New Jersey scored twice in the third to make it a one-goal game and push the betting total over six goals in a 4-3 loss.

For the season, New Jersey is still one of the best moneyline bets in the league, providing a 18.13% return on investment, good for third in the NHL. However, that ROI was much more profitable three weeks ago. Over their skid, New Jersey were the chalk in five of the seven games they lost.

Despite their lack of recent success, the Devils still own the best road record in the East. It’s home ice, where Wednesday night’s game in the Bruins vs Devils odds will be played, that is the issue. New Jersey is just 1-5-1 at the Prudential Center this month and have the 11th-best home record in the East.

If they want the media and fans to consider them a legitimate contender and not just two-month pretenders in the Stanley Cup odds, they’ll have to find a way to make it tougher for opponents to win in their own barn.

Bruins vs Devils Pick & Prediction

Undoubtedly, Ullmark has been the best goalie in the league this year. He leads the league in wins, goals against average and save percentage. The Swedish netminder has only given up more than three goals once this campaign, but we think there’s a good chance the Devils will get to him in this matchup.

Bruins vs Devils Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Over 6.5 Goals -106
Jack Hughes Anytime Goal Scorer +140
PARLAY ODDS  +275

Boston should have some tired legs after being forced into a shootout in their first game back from the holiday break. The Devils should take the opportunity to pounce early.

We like the trend of these teams going over the betting total to continue in this one. Ullmark gave up three goals in last week’s game to New Jersey and has stumbled a bit of late allowing 11 goals in his last four outings.

Jack Hughes was the first player to get on the board when these teams met last week and has six markers in his last 10. In the Wednesday NHL odds, pick these two sides to combine for over 6.5 goals just like they did in their previous meeting.

Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-106)
