Bruins Betting Trends

The Bruins are battling for the top spot in the Atlantic Division, currently holding a one-point lead over the Florida Panthers with a game in hand. Boston is coming off a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in their last game. Despite the loss, the Bruins have been impressive on the road this season, boasting a 22-8-9 record, the best in the NHL.

Boston’s success can be attributed to their strong defensive play, allowing just 12 goals in their last six games, resulting in the under being cashed in each instance. Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman form one of the league’s best goalie tandems, limiting opponents to just 2.68 goals per game.

David Pastrnak (47 goals, 107 points) and Brad Marchand (28 goals, 66 points) have also been instrumental in the team’s success, helping the Bruins rank 11th in scoring with 3.24 goals per game.

Veteran forward Pat Maroon will make his Bruins debut on Saturday. He was acquired from Minnesota at the trade deadline but has been recovering from back surgery. In 49 games this season, the “Big Rig” has netted four goals and 12 assists.

The Bruins have had the upper hand in recent meetings with the Penguins, managing a 3-1-1 record in their last five matchups. However, the season series between these two teams is currently tied at 1-1.

Penguins Betting Trends

The Penguins have defied expectations since trading top-line forward Jake Guentzel on March 7, surging into the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh has gone 7-0-3 in their last 10 games, largely due to their offensive explosion, averaging 4.20 goals per contest during that span.

Crosby has been the driving force behind the Penguins’ resurgence, racking up 23 points (nine goals) in his last 13 games. The 36-year-old superstar has been well-supported by Bryan Rust (six goals, 13 points in his last 10 games) and trade acquisition Michael Bunting (two goals, seven points in his last five games).

In goal, the Penguins have relied heavily on Alex Nedeljkovic, who has a 17-6-7 record with a 2.89 GAA and .904 save percentage this season. However, Nedeljkovic has struggled recently, allowing 12 goals on 87 shots (.862 save percentage) in his past three outings.

There’s an outside chance Tristan Jarry gets the nod Saturday, but with so much on the line and the Penguins clicking overall, Pittsburgh will probably be reluctant to mix things up now.

Bruins vs Penguins Player Props

If you’re looking for a player prop to lock in for Saturday’s NHL game, we recommend targeting David Pastrnak as an anytime goalscorer. Throughout his career, the only team Pasta has scored more goals against is the Philadelphia Flyers.

Pastrnak has netted 18 goals in 26 career games against the Pens and is in a prime bounce-back spot after going scoreless on just one shot against the Canes. He averages nearly five shots per game on the season and has already scored twice on Nedeljkovic this season.

Bruins vs Penguins Prediction

On paper, the Bruins are the better team and have a strong road record (22-8-9). However, the Penguins have been playing inspired hockey lately, driven by Sidney Crosby’s incredible play.

We’re tempted to back the underdog Penguins in this spot, but Boston tends to match up well with Pittsburgh. Furthermore, Nedeljkovic had a tough time against the Bruins this season, stopping just 42 of 52 shots (.808 save percentage) in two meetings.

We faded the Pens against another Eastern Conference powerhouse (Toronto) earlier in the week, and it paid off. Saturday’s goalie mismatch has us leaning that way again for today’s game.

BOS vs PIT Pick:

  • Bruins ML (-125)
