It’s a case of somebody’s got to win on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021 when the Flyers travel to New Jersey to take on the Devils at the Prudential Center with a 7 PM EST puck drop. Both teams come into this one on significant losing streaks, but the Devils are listed as -155 home favorites in the Flyers vs Devils odds. This Philly team takes to the ice after they got Head Coach Alain Vigneault fired on Monday.

Let’s take a look at the Flyers vs Devils odds and betting lines for this matchup.

Value in Betting on Philly in Wednesday NHL Odds After Coaching Change?

It may make sense in certain situations, but betting on NHL teams after a head coaching change doesn’t always work out. It certainly didn’t on Monday when Philly lost a 7-5 barnburner to Colorado as home underdogs in the Monday NHL odds with new Head Coach Mike Yeo behind the bench.

Their defense and goaltending continues to be porous as they’ve give up an astonishing seven goals in back-to-back games and have been allowing nearly five goals per game during their nine-game skid.

After a great start to the season, Carter Hart has really struggled and like last season, he’s got Flyers fans wondering if he can be counted on as a number one netminder. He’s given up three or more goals in each of his last five games and has an .855 save percentage over those contests.

Devils Good Bet to Hit Over Lately

On the other side of the coin, New Jersey has been struggling to keep the puck out of the net lately as well, leading them to hit the over in five of their last six contests, mainly due to the goals being scored by the opposition.

They’ve allowed five goals per game over a four-game losing skid. Their last win was actually against the Flyers, a 5-2 victory on November 28th.

Are Flyers a Good Pick to Break Losing Streak vs Devils

It’s actually hard to lose 10 games in a row, the dubious feat the Flyers are looking to avoid against the Devils. The last time they lost 10 in a row was during the 2017-18 season and before that, 2007-08, a year in which they went to the Eastern Conference Finals.

It’s gotten so bad people are posting videos of a police K9 as an example of their feelings towards their team’s play of late.

Needless to say, the Flyers and Devils both sit on the outside looking in when you look at the NHL playoff odds, although New Jersey is still a longer shot to make the postseason than Philly despite the Flyers’ play of late.

Flyers vs Devils Pick & Prediction

Both these teams losing skids have been accompanied by allowing goals and lots of them. The over has hit in four of the last five games for each team. The over is also 4-0 in the Flyers’ last four games playing on one day rest, while the over is 6-0 in the Devils’ last six games on one day rest.

If you bet according to the trends, the over does seem like the lock for this one at -108 in the Flyers vs Devils odds at Barstool Sportsbook, and that might be the play.

I do think this is a great opportunity for the Flyers to break out of their funk against New Jersey because of these Flyers vs Devils betting notes:

  • They’ve only had two losing streaks of 10 plus games in the last 15 years
  • They will have at least half the fans cheering for them even though it’s in New Jersey
  • The Devils are on a 4 game losing streak of their own and have their own struggles

I’m taking the value bet in the Wednesday NHL odds here and going with the Flyers to snap the skid against the Devils. Take Philadelphia to win at +120 in the Flyers vs Devils odds at Barstool Sportsbook
