After finally getting over the hump and proving themselves to be the class of the NHL last season, the Avs were slow out of the gate this year with just four wins from nine games in October. They seem to have righted the ship, as they’ve started off November with three straight wins.
The Avs have also been hit hard by the injury bug, with a number of key players sidelined. It’ll be a stiff test when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, November 12th. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:00 pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver and can be seen on Altitude and Bally Sports South in the United States.
The Avalanche are -139 home favorites in this clash of two of the top teams in the league. Have a look at the rest of the Hurricanes vs Avalanche odds below, plus our best bet and pick for this matchup.

Carolina Hurricanes Betting Analysis
After opening the season with three wins against three of the league’s expected minnows, the Canes have endured one of the toughest schedules in the league. It continues Saturday night, when they’re road underdogs in the NHL odds against the defending Stanley Cup champs.
Carolina holds a mediocre 6-4-1 record since defeating the Blue Jackets, Sharks and Kraken to start the year. One of the highest-ranked teams in the Stanley Cup odds, they are coming off a very impressive 7-2 demolition of Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Jack Campbell’s awful goaltending was partly to thank for that lopsided score.

Andrei Svechnikov snapped a five-game goalless skid in that contest by notching his second hat trick of the year. The Russian winger might be moving up in the Rocket Richard trophy odds soon, as his 11 goals are the third most in the league so far this season.
Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, the oft-injured Frederik Andersen wasn’t available even as a backup against the Oilers in the Canes last game and was placed on injured reserve. Antti Raanta who carried the load for the Canes in the playoffs last year when Andersen was hurt, is expected to get the start against Colorado.
Avalanche Hit Hard By Injuries
Talk about a coach’s worst nightmare. Jared Bednar has seen the injury list grow and grow through the first month of the season. Luckily, his top two forwards and Norris Trophy odds favorite, Cale Makar are not among those that have missed any action so far.
Those two aforementioned top forwards are guys who you might consider as good bang for your buck bets in the Hart Trophy odds, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. The last time these two met in Colorado last year the Avs high flying forwards combined for three goals and five points in a 7-4 thrashing.

Prior to that dominating win by the Avs, most affairs between these two teams have been very low-scoring encounters. In fact, the six previous games all went under the total and it was never really close. They combined for 22 goals in those matchups, an average of just 3.67 per game.
Rantanen has been particularly scorching as of late with six markers in his last four games. With all the forwards out of the lineup, the Avs depth has more then stepped up to the plate. Logan O’Connor has scored in three straight games while Evan Rodrigues has points in four straight.
The Avs power play has been dynamite, checking in at a 40.5% clip, good for tops in the league.

Hurricanes vs Avalanche Pick & Prediction
The offenses for both squads are riding high. The Hurricanes can breathe a sigh of relief after their seven-goal outburst against the Oil. Prior to that contest, they were shut out by the Panthers and scored just one goal in a 3-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
They’re probably hoping that touchdown they put up changes their puck luck. Although they are in the middle of the league in goals for, they are fifth from the bottom in shooting percentage, checking in at just 8.53%.

Colorado, on the other hand, is fourth in the league in shooting percentage. While they’re tops in the league with the man advantage, they are 30th on the penalty kill, so watch out for special teams to play a factor in this one.
Four of five Colorado home games this year have gone over the betting total, and with both these teams hitting their offensive stride, our prediction in the Saturday NHL odds is for the Hurricanes and Avalanche to combine for more than 6.5 goals.
Pick: Over 6.5 Goals (-103)
