Bolts Favored in Stadium Series NHL Odds

The Tampa Bay Lightning are heavy -175 favorites to beat the Predators in the 2022 NHL Stadium Series Game. The two-time reigning Stanley Cup Champs have never played an outdoor game, but they do have a key stat working in their favor Saturday.

Reigning Stanley Cup champions are 4-1-0 all-time in NHL outdoor games, which sets up the Bolts for a big performance at Nissan Stadium. The Lightning have won three straight games and sit second in the Atlantic Division with 72 points in 50 contests.

Tampa Bay has been listed as the betting favorite in the NHL odds in 38 of their 50 games this season. The Bolts are an impressive 30-8 as betting favorites. A big reason for the success is goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, who is the third-favorite in the Vezina Trophy odds.

The Lightning rank top-10 in both offense and defense. They are scoring 3.44 goals per game, while allowing 2.76 goals per contest. Steven Stamkos is leading the team with 24 goals, while defenseman Victor Hedman has been a beast with 50 points and a plus-18 rating.

Do Preds Offer Underdog Value Outdoors?

Nashville is an intriguing plus-money underdog against the Lightning in the 2022 NHL Stadium Series. The Predators already have experience playing in an NHL outdoor game. Nashville lost 4-2 to Dallas in the 2020 Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl.

Nashville enters the NHL Stadium Series Game coming off a huge recent victory over the Eastern-Conference leading Panthers. Filip Forsberg had three points as the Preds beat Florida 6-4 on Tuesday. It was just the fourth time this season the Panthers lost on home ice.

Nashville beat Florida as +247 underdogs, which has been a trend for John Hynes’ club in 2021-22. The Preds are 14-9 in 23 games in which they’ve listed as the betting underdog. Nashville sits fourth in the Central Division with 64 points in 52 contests.

The Preds are middle-of-the-pack in both offense and defense. They’re averaging 3.06 goals per game, while allowing 2.81 goals against per contest. Nashville is riding a two-game winning streak entering Saturday’s game after winning 2-1 against Dallas on Thursday.

There are a few storylines to monitor that could impact Nashville’s Stadium Series betting value. Forsberg’s name is floating in trade rumors, which could create a distraction. Blueliner Matt Borowiecki, meanwhile, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and questionable for Saturday’s game.

Lightning vs Predators Stadium Series Pick and Prediction

The Lightning have clearly been a better team than Nashville this season, but outdoor games are a different beast. Nissan Stadium is going to provide an electric atmosphere, and home teams have gotten the win in 10 of the past 14 NHL outdoor games.

This is the first meeting between Nashville and Tampa Bay since the Preds dominated the Bolts by a 7-2 score in April 2021. While Nashville has won two of the last three meetings, this rivalry has historically been one-sided. The Lightning have won seven of the past 10 matchups dating back to 2019.

Both these teams are top-five in high-danger chances allowed and have goalies in the mix in the Vezina race. Tampa Bay’s lethal offense with Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Stamkos gives them a nice advantage over a Preds team with a d-man (Roman Josi) as their leading scorer.

Although Saros can compete with Vasilevskiy, his track record vs Tampa Bay is concerning. The 26-year-old has posted a .886 save percentage and 3.15 GAA in six career starts vs Tampa. Vasilevskiy own a .911 save percentage and 2.46 GAA in 11 career games vs Nashville.

The atmosphere favors the underdog Preds, but the Bolts record against inferior teams is just too good to ignore. They’ve also only lost twice in their last 13 games, while Nashville is struggling with consistency, going 5-4-1 in their last 10 games.
