Predators Battling for Wild Card Spot

So, the Nashville Predators are not playing that badly, their offense, Roman Josi, and Juuse Saros are leading the way.

At press time, Nashville holds the first wildcard spot in the playoff race and is 16 games over .500. After winning six of their last ten, they are now 41-25-4 on the season and battling with Dallas and Vegas for the final spot. The Predators are also looking up trying to catch St. Louis or Minnesota.

Nashville is a eight points clear when it comes to the NHL playoff bracket. They scored two big wins during the week to give them a leg up in the playoff race.

Fortunately, Nashville has received timely goal scoring from the top line including Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene in particular. Combine that with Roman Josi, who leads all defensemen in points with 87 points in 68 games.

While Juuse Saros and the defense have been somewhat porous at times, Nashville has been holding teams chasing them at bay.

Saros is a solid Vezina Trophy candidate and obviously Roman Josi is an expected finalist for the Norris Trophy for best overall defenseman. They are two of the big pillars for this Nashville team. Yet, the Predators are underdogs on Sunday afternoon.

Therefore, the NHL odds range from +135 to +165. Also, 42% of the betting percentage is on the Nashville moneyline (at +155) and 42% ATS.

Penguins Look to End Losing Streak

A four game losing streak has inched the Penguins’ Stanley Cup odds up to +1600. They began 2021-22 at +2400 to win the Stanley Cup. With the acquisition of Rickard Rakell, Pittsburgh has not quite gotten the bump it had been expecting.

There will always be a few doubts with Tristan Jarry in goal for Pittsburgh but lately, the Penguins have been a little under the weather.

Pittsburgh is struggling. On Saturday, they gave up six goals to the Washington Capitals which included four unanswered goals. The defense and goaltending have been allowing too many second chances while the offense has not been able to deliver timely goals.

Predators vs Penguins Pick

The Predators and Penguins will be a truly wild matchup on Sunday as the backup goaltenders are projected to start. Casey DeSmith and David Rittich seem to suck a little of the luster out of this second and final meeting of the season.

Now, Pittsburgh has 92 points and leads the Washington Capitals by just four points in the race for the third spot in the Metropolitan Division.

At least, both teams are unrested. In that sense, both squads will probably try to tighten things up defensively a bit. However, the opportunities are expected to flow.

Expect both Nashville and Pittsburgh’s top-six to get their opportunities. The over is going to be something heavily bet in this game so do watch for a potential shift to 6.5 possibly. If not, hammer the 6.0.

The approach with this afternoon weekend contest is not to overthink here. Take the Predators if the moneyline stays at +150 or better. It’s worth the plus-money risk with the way both teams are playing.

Pick: Nashville Moneyline (+155)
