The World’s Strongest Man competition is is to be contested June 13-16 in Bradenton, Florida. and already, there’s a growing buzz about whether any of these monster men will be able to shatter the world deadlift record of 500kg.
Great Britain’s Eddie Hall established the current mark on July 9th, 2016, shattering the old standard of 463kg.

A Mountain of a Man
The defending champion in the world’s strongest man competition carries a well-known name, even if the vast majority of people who know of him may not know this fact about him.
Iceland’s Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson won the title in 2018. He is a mountain of a man at 6’9″ and 397 pounds. But you probably recognize him as The Mountain on Game of Thrones.
Gregor Clegane, the Mountain’s GoT character name, even sparred with former UFC world champion Conor McGregor.
Though he’s boldly predicting that he can beat the 500kg world mark, compared to Hall’s record, The Mountain’s personal-best deadlift is a molehill – 410kg.
Are There Legitimate Contenders?
It would seem not.
American Brian Shaw is a four-time World’s Strongest Man winner. Just like Björnsson, Shaw’s career-best deadlift is 410kg.
Lithuania’s Žydrūnas Savickas is also a four-time World’s Strongest Man champion. His personal best on the deadlift checks in at 409.5kg.
Just 25, Poland’s Mateusz Kieliszkowski is young in strongman years but he’s already finished second in the competition last year. However, the weakest part of his game is the deadlift.

He’s improved incrementally, going from 368kg in 2017, to 371 last year and 396kg earlier this year. That’s a long way from 500kg, though.
Martins Licis finished fourth at the 2017 competition, pulling a deadlift of 411.4kg. Again, a long way off of 500.
We can confidently look you dead in the eye and caution against betting on the deadlift record being broken at this year’s World’s Strongest Man competition.
