George W Bush was a two-term Republican President from 2001-08. Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee for the Presidency in 2020.
Those two are only supposed to intertwine grudgingly. And yet, look at recent statements both men made regarding the current protests across the USA over police brutality against African Americans. They appear to be on the same page.
Bush released a statement about the protests the day after Biden spoke to the nation. Their taking points were strikingly similar. Each man’s rhetoric was certainly the polar opposite of the hard-core, violent solutions US President Donald Trump is proposing.
Trump’s popularity is sinking. For the first time, Biden is now the chalk in the 2020 US Presidential odds. Might Bush go as far as to endorse Biden’s candidacy for President? That’s the question being proposed in a prop wager.

Bush Issues Statement On Protests
This week, Bush and his wife, Laura, issued a combined statement. It was about the ongoing unrest in America. They struck a tone that was similar to what Biden is saying. Their words were miles away from the ranting, threatening tone that Trump is opting to take.
“Many doubt the justice of our country, and with good reason,” the Bush statement read. “Black people see the repeated violation of their rights without an urgent and adequate response from American institutions. We know that lasting justice will only come by peaceful means.”

Trump is calling for the military to be deployed to quell demonstrations. He used the phrase, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
Monday, he instructed law enforcement to gas peaceful protestors outside the White House. This cleared a path to allow Trump to cross the road for a photo op in front of a church.
Bush didn’t go as far as to name Trump. Biden, however, didn’t hold back. “Donald Trump has turned this country into a battlefield driven by old resentments and fresh fears,” Biden said. “He thinks division helps him.”
Would Bush Endorse Biden?
In the past, Republicans have endorsed Democrats for President. Colin Powell, Bush’s Secretary of State, endorsed Barack Obama over Republican John McCain during the 2008 election.
However, there’s no record of a former President endorsing a member of the opposing party to win the Presidency.
Trump’s approval rating continues to take on water. He’s down to 37.5% in the latest polls.

Gen. James Mattis, Trump’s former Defense Secretary, issued a blistering attack on Trump this week. “We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership,” Mattis said.
Are the Bushes tacitly giving Biden a virtual endorsement? Some pundits are suggesting the wording of their statement does just that.

That’s probably as far as it will go. Trump was nasty to Jeb Bush during the 2016 Republican Presidential campaign. George W Bush certainly remembers his brother was treated poorly.
His critiques, though, never specifically mention Trump. Leaping to an unprecedented Biden endorsement? That seems a bridge too far.
