  • Donald Trump’s odds of being re-elected dipped marginally after racist remarks about four Democratic Congresswomen
  • However, Trump’s odds to win the GOP nomination actually improved from -800 to -900
  • The GOP’s odds to be the winning party in 2020 also got shorter

Well, it turns out that Donald Trump was right about something.

He claimed during the 2016 Presidential Election that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in New York City and it wouldn’t impact his popularity with the Republican base one iota.

Looks like POTUS had a point. The more vile he gets, the more his base embraces him.

Trump’s latest racist Twitter tirade — demanding the four Democratic US Congresswomen who are visible minorities “go back home” — is being panned as blatantly racist everywhere except among his supporters.

In fact, the odds show that Trump’s popularity within the GOP base has improved. Overall, there was a slight downward trend in his numbers in the 2020 Presidential odds.

2020 Presidential Odds

Team Odds
Donald Trump +100
Kamala Harris +450
Joe Biden +600
Elizabeth Warren +800
Pete Buttigieg +1000
Bernie Sanders +1000
Andrew Yang +2000
Beto O’Rourke +4000
Tulsi Gabbard +4000
Cory Booker +7000

*Odds taken 07/18/19

On average, across leading sportsbooks, Trump’s odds to retain the Presidency dipped to +100 from -120.

However, his odds to win the 2020 GOP nomination got slightly better, improving from -800 to -900.

As well, the Republicans’ odds of winning the Presidency in 2020 are currently as strong they’ve been during the current election cycle. The party has moved from slight-underdog status at +100 in late June to a -160 favorite in mid-July. So it would be a little naive to claim that his odds of retaining the office of President have actually gotten worse.

They Love Him And Won’t Leave Him

The more Trump lowers the bar of decency, the more his supporters bow in reverence to his disgraceful behavior.

At a rally in Greenville, South Carolina, he looked on smugly as those in attendance launched into a chant of “Send Her Back.” The cnating was in reference to Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

Omar, along with first-term members of Congress Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, were the targets of Trump’s Twitter-storm last weekend. Critics were quick to assess the diatribe as racist.

As offensive as his rant was, it only served to embolden those who back the man.

Is This Another Trump Distraction?

Might all of this hate speech from Trump be nothing more than a smokescreen ? An effort to distract attention from really bad stuff that’s just around the corner?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is due to testify before Congress on July 24. Economists are predicting the US economy is headed for recession next year.

There’s the disturbing connection between billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and Trump. Epstein is facing sex trafficking charges involving underage girls.

Ultimately, will any of it matter?

For all his deplorable actions since entering the race for the Presidency, nothing has derailed the Trump train.

Is there any scandal strong enough to stick to Teflon Don and bring him down?

The odds say no.
