Max Verstappen has shown steady improvement over his three career appearances at the French Grand Prix. And, after completing the clean sweep last year by seizing the pole, the fastest lap, and checkered flag, it is no surprise that he has emerged as a +110 favorite on the Formula 1 odds to earn the win in this weekend’s running of the 2022 French Grand Prix.
Verstappen has plenty of company near the top of the French Grand Prix odds. Fresh off an impressive victory two weeks ago in Austria, Charles Leclerc travels to France closely trailing as a +170 second favorite. A two-time winner at this event, Lewis Hamilton rounds out the top of the odds board as a +750 wager to claim his first victory of the 2022 campaign.
Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of lights outs at the 2022 French Grand Prix, which is set for 9:00am ET on Sunday morning at Circuit Paul Ricard.

Don’t Sleep on Sainz
After being dogged by technical problems and mystifying team orders that kept him off the top of the podium since his victory three months ago in Australia, Charles Leclerc finally bounced back with his win in the Austrian Grand Prix. Largely outpaced by archrival Max Verstappen, who seized the pole with an impressive qualifying run and a victory in the qualifying sprint, Leclerc responded with a sensational drive that ended with his first career win when not starting on the pole.

Things did not go so well for Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. Riding high in the wake of his first career F1 win earlier this month at the British Grand Prix, Sainz looked poised to challenge in Austria after seizing the No. 3 spot on the starting grid. However, for the fourth time this year, Sainz failed to finish in Austria, with his race getting ended by a power unit late in the race.

Overall, it has been very much a feast-or-famine campaign for Sainz. While his four DNFs raise concerns, the talented Spaniard has been a consistent threat, reaching the podium in six of the seven races he has finished to date. Accordingly, Sainz offers the most value in the French Grand Prix odds by far, sporting +1700 odds to win and +175 odds to reach the podium.

French Grand Prix Picks
With both Sainz and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez failing to finish in Austria, the path was clear for Lewis Hamilton to reach the podium for the third time in as many races. That trend has helped boost the seven-time F1 champion’s race day odds. Indeed, Hamilton has enjoyed past success at the French Grand Prix, taking home the checkered flag in both 2018 and 2019.

However, with both Red Bull and Ferrari cars still holding a clear edge in pace, it will likely take another spate of bad luck among his closest rivals for Hamilton to keep for the podium this time around. In fact, for Mercedes fans, it is Hamilton’s teammate George Russell who enjoys the greater betting value this weekend.

The 24-year-old Englishman has been a model of consistency this season, posting top five finishes in 10 of 11 races. And with a further breakthrough seemingly inevitable, Russell should not be overlooked as a +175 wager to once again reach the podium this weekend.
The Picks: Carlos Sainz to win (+1700); George Russell podium finish (+175)
