  • Chase Elliott is a split favorite at the Toyota 400 on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022
  • Can Ross Chastain and Trackhouse Racing continue to spur more young drivers on?
  • We’ve got your short-track fix covered with all the Toyota Owners 400 odds and trends ahead of Sunday afternoon’s race

NASCAR heads to Richmond, Virginia, for the seventh race of the 2022 season. The race comes from the Richmond Raceway. The odds reflect a kind of uncertainty with results from current to historical. Chase Elliott is again the early favorite at +800 in the NASCAR Toyota 400 odds. It does seem like drivers like Ross Chastain, Tyler Reddick, and even those Hendricks are showing the way.

This is two weeks after the Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500, where William Byron stole the show and won in Atlanta. Then last week, Ross Chastain, who had three straight podium finishes, bumped and bounced his way to victory at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix.

Let’s look at those Toyota Owners 400 odds and figure out which drivers are the best bets.

Chase Elliott Split Favorite At Richmond

NASCAR drivers will run on the 0.75-mile Richmond Raceway when the flag drops for the Sunday afternoon race beginning around 3:30 PM ET. This track is a fast D-shaped short-track. Conditions will be pleasant, with Mostly Sunny skies and temperatures likely in the mid-60s.

Elliott has been more consistent than Kyle Larson so far this year which has pushed him into the favorite position again. He does have a couple of top-five results and tops the Cup Championship points.

Currently, Elliott is a split favorite at +800 odds (+750 at Caesars). Teammate Kyle Larson now stands at +900 (+600 at Caesars Sportsbook). Larson is the favorite when it comes to Caesars Sportsbook, but Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. lurk at +850 there.

Now, what might happen at Richmond?

The expectation is to see another action-filled race on Sunday. Practice and qualifying could tell us a bit more but the Next-Gen car has brought the heat and looks to once more at Richmond.

The race is usually 400 laps and has been decided twice in overtime since 2009.

Can Joe Gibbs Racing Rise Up?

Sports bettors have started to get frustrated with this team. The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers keep taking a dive in the NASCAR Cup Series odds, but Martin Truex Jr. is seventh in the points.

Four of the top five best drivers from the last three years at Richmond are from JGR. Does history start to translate or does the Next-Gen car continue to frustrate this team?

This becomes put up or shut up time for Joe Gibbs Racing. Martin Truex Jr. has won three of the last five races on the 3/4 mile track. He and Kyle Busch have five top-ten results. Denny Hamlin has four. Even Christopher Bell has two in three appearances. Last week on the road, all four cars were in the top ten after the first third of the race. Then, the race got away again.

Toyota Owners 400 Predictions & Picks

The speed trifecta this year is led by Ross Chastain, Chase Briscoe, and Tyler Reddick. Combine that with drivers like Austin Cindric, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron gives the younger drivers hope once again at Richmond.

Check this out. Chastain is +1200 for this race and as low as +1400 in some places to win the Cup Championship. Teammate Daniel Suarez is an intriguing possibility at +3000 and Alex Bowman is hard to count out at +1600.

The stage format is 80-155-165 for laps.  With the first real short-track race of the season, expect much paint to be traded again.

Here are our best bets:

  • Top Pick: Martin Truex Jr. to win (+900)
  • Middle Shooters: Alex Bowman (+1600),  Austin Dillon (+3000)
  • Longshots: Kurt Busch (+4000), Erik Jones (+5000)
