South American World Cup Qualifiers continue on Thursday, November 11th with an intriguing clash between Brazil and Colombia on Matchday 13 at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST.

The hosts are currently at the top of the group and have yet to taste defeat, dropping only two points through 11 games. As for the Colombians, they’re in fourth spot and still well in the running for a berth in Qatar next year.

These two sides played to a scoreless draw on Matchday 5, but Brazil is currently on a six-game unbeaten streak against Colombia.

Flawless Brazil

Selecao has been flying high in qualifying, proving to be the class of the continent. Tite’s squad is six points ahead of second-place Argentina currently, winning 10 games and drawing just once. From front to back, they’ve looked absolutely world-class, bagging 26 goals while conceding a mere four times. Last time out, Brazil hammered Uruguay 4-1 behind an impressive attacking display.

Neymar opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Leeds United standout Raphinha netted a brace in his second call-up to the national team. Gabriel Barbosa added insurance with a late goal in the second half as well. It’s surprising the Brazilians found the back of the net just four times after registering a mind-boggling 22 shots, with 13 hitting the target. Their firepower in the final third was in full display and Colombia’s shaky backline will surely be tested here.

Aside from the likes of the usual suspects like Neymar and Gabriel Jesus, Ajax star Antony is back with Brazil alongside Raphinha. These two possess electrifying pace and will be a handful for their opponents on Thursday. Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho also received a call-up after a one-year absence from international duty.

Tite has a full-strength squad at his disposal for this fixture and if the results go the right way over the next week, the Brazilians can book their ticket to Qatar. They will also be brimming with confidence ahead of Thursday because the South American giants have only lost three times in the last 34 games against their matchday 13 counterparts while collecting 20 wins in the process.

Colombia Looking to Break Dry Spell

The Colombians aren’t exactly in the greatest form at the moment, playing to scoreless draws in three straight matches against Uruguay, Brazil, and most recently, Ecuador. Reinaldo Rueda’s men have struggled to score and keep oppositions out of their goal, netting 16 times and conceding the same number through 12 outings. In fact, they’ve won just three games and drawn seven.

There are some concerns defensively for Colombia, though. center-back pairing Yerry Mina and Carlos Cuesta are currently nursing injuries and won’t be available against Brazil. That means Tottenham man Davinson Sanchez will likely be relied upon to provide solidity at the back.  The country’s all-time leading goal-scorer, Radamel Falcao, also missed out on a call-up after scoring against Real Madrid last weekend then getting hurt just minutes later.

James Rodriguez however is finally back with La Tricolor following a spell where he was left out due to fitness issues. He’s found a new home in Qatar and could bring some much-needed creativity to Colombia.

All eyes will be on Porto star Luis Diaz though, who is arguably the side’s most polarizing figure up top. The 24-year-old scored four times in Copa America but has just two goals to his name in 10 appearances in qualifying. Nonetheless, Rueda will be hoping a moment of brilliance could be in the cards for the winger in Thursday’s massive encounter.

Brazil vs Colombia Prediction

The Brazilians frankly have a much stronger group of players and with Colombia missing Mina and Cuesta, I have a hard time seeing them stopping a deadly attack in Sao Paulo. That being said, the hosts will secure a two-goal victory and further their lead at the top of the table in qualifying.
