St. Louis (36-33-12) is eliminated but playing their best hockey of the season with three straight wins. The Blues scored seven against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and they’re -125 road chalk in a rare spot as favorites over a playoff team in the latest NHL odds.

Utah (43-32-6, 92 points) locked up the top wild card in the West on Tuesday with a 5-3 win over Winnipeg. The Mammoth have won six of their last eight but may look to rest bodies with the first round starting next week. Clayton Keller carries a franchise-record nine-game point streak into the finale.

• Total bet: Over 6 Goals (-115 at Bet365)

The over is the play for my Blues vs Mammoth prediction. The over has hit in seven of Utah’s last 10 games and five of their last seven at home. St. Louis matches that pace with the over cashing in three of their last four.

Neither team’s goaltending is built to keep games tight right now. Both carry identical .889 team save percentages on the season, and neither penalty kill is above 78%.

Utah has the edge in scoring at 3.27 goals per game, but the Blues have been a different team lately, scoring seven and five in their last two games. St. Louis also ramps up the physicality at 21.96 hits per game to Utah’s 19.30.

The biggest over indicator is the shared .889 team save percentage. Two sub-.890 teams in a season finale where one might rest players is a recipe for goals.

My main Blues vs Mammoth pick is on St. Louis to win outright. The Blues have won three straight and scored 17 goals across those games. Jimmy Snuggerud is on fire with 11 points in his last six, and Dylan Holloway has 32 points in 24 games since the Olympic break.

Utah is expected to rest Vejmelka and may sit other regulars ahead of Round 1 against Vegas. The Blues are playing with nothing to lose. Motivation matters in a season finale, and St. Louis clearly has more of it.

The 21-year-old just hit 21 goals and has 11 points in his last six. He’s finishing the season on a tear and should keep firing against a Mammoth team that might not be going all out.

Blues vs Mammoth Expected Goalies

Neither goalie has been officially confirmed. Joel Hofer (23-13-5, .909 SV%, 2.60 GAA) is the projected starter for St. Louis. Vejmelka (38-19-3, .896 SV%, 2.74 GAA) is widely expected to sit with the playoffs starting next week, meaning Vitek Vanecek (5-12-3) should get the call for Utah.

Hofer has been the sharper netminder with six shutouts and a .909 save percentage. Vanecek has struggled all season, and his presence in net is a big reason the books have the eliminated Blues as road favorites. If you’re betting the over, Vanecek between the pipes only helps the case.
