Stamford Bridge will be the scene on Thursday, June 25th, kick-off at 3:15 pm EST when Chelsea host Man City. It’s been a perfect start for both teams since football returned in England, with City scoring eight goals across two matches against Arsenal and Burnley. Meanwhile, the Blues just scraped out three points in their lone match against Aston Villa last weekend by a score of 2-1.

These two Premier League giants previously met back in November, with City winning by a goal at the Etihad. It was a very even match, but Riyad Mahrez’s winner proved to be the difference-maker.

Can Chelsea Catch Leicester in Third?

This is not only a huge match for the Blues in regards to staying in the top four, but also because they’re currently just four points behind Leicester City, who they play in the FA Cup on Sunday. A positive result against Man City is going to be vital for Frank Lampard’s side if they want to make an attempt at finishing in the top three.

Against Villa on the weekend, Chelsea impressed, despite giving up the first goal. Their attack was electric, creating tons of opportunities, eventually mustering up two goals thanks to substitute Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud, who put away the winner just minutes after the American’s equalizer. Pulisic made an immediate impact when he came on in the second half at Villa Park, which should land him in the starting XI on Thursday against the Citizens. Giroud should see the pitch at some point as well, having scored three goals in his last four appearances.

After these next two matches against top-three sides, the Blues have several difficult fixtures ahead on the schedule, including clashes with Sheffield, Palace, Wolves, and Liverpool. Taking away points against City is going to be very important for Chelsea as they look to remain in a Champions League spot with Manchester United and Wolves just two points back after their recent victories.

City Comfortable in Second Place

It’s no secret that Liverpool has the title wrapped up, with a 20-point cushion on Pep Guardiola’s men. However, City is also eight points ahead of Leicester in second, and given their recent form, it’s hard to imagine Brendan Rodgers’ side catching the reigning Premier League champions.

Since returning to action, the Citizens have been ruthless in the final third, beating Arsenal 3-0 on Matchday 29, then thrashing Burnley on Monday 5-0 behind Phil Foden’s brace. However, star striker Sergio Aguero hobbled off with a knee injury in the victory, undergoing surgery on Wednesday. It’s unknown if he’ll suit up again this season, but regardless, City still has tons of firepower on the attack that can do damage. Kevin De Bruyne has been directly involved in 25 goals this term, scoring nine times and tallying 16 assists. The Belgian is the heartbeat of City’s midfield and will definitely play a key part on Thursday.

They’ve dominated Chelsea in recent memory as well, winning five of their last seven meetings against the Blues.

Best Bet

Although Chelsea is unbeaten in their last 12 fixtures at Stamford Bridge against Man City, I’m giving the advantage to Guardiola’s squad. They have been firing on all cylinders lately and given the Blues vulnerability at the back, I don’t see City staying off the scoresheet. Chelsea will put up a fight, but it will be the same result as their last meeting, with the Citizens winning by a goal.

Pick: Man City -127
