Things are tightening up at both ends of the table in Spain ahead of La Liga Matchday 25, as Real Madrid chases down cross-town rival Atletico Madrid in first place and five teams sitting within three points of each other around the relegation zone.

The fun begins Saturday morning, when Barcelona travels to Sevilla to face the nervionenses at the Sanchez Pizjuan (10:15 am) in a top-four clash.

Diego Simeone’s Atleti will expect nothing less than three points from a trip to Villarreal, though the latter has been defeated just once at home (5-6-1) this season.

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid faces a tricky visit from a Real Sociedad side that has put together a decent month of February in league play

Sevilla vs Barcelona Prediction

It’s been a phenomenal February for Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla (15-3-5), with five-straight wins in La Liga play and a strong 2-0 win vs Barcelona in Copa del Rey action only marred by a first-leg loss to Dortmund in Champions League play last week.

Barcelona (15-5-4) has been similarly hot in league play, with wins in four of five (4-1-0) but an ugly 4-1 loss at home to PSG on Febuary 16 hanging like a dark cloud over manager Ronald Koeman.

The head-to-head is fairly even, with Barça holding a 3-2-1 edge dating back to the start of 2019 — but Sevilla undefeated in the last three (1-2-0) contests.

Backing the hosts with draw no bet (DNB) protection at plus-money is a no-brainer, especially given the 2-0 scoreline at the same stadium a few short weeks ago.

Pick: Sevilla DNB (+135)

Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Both Villarreal (8-13-3) and Atletico Madrid (17-4-2) will see Sunday’s La Liga Matchday 25 contest at the Estadio de la Ceramica as an opportunity to turn the page on subpar February performances.

Unai Emery’s Villarreal has struggled to convert draws into wins all season long, and an 0-4-1 record in its last five outings has left El Submarino Amarillo firmly outside the top five.

Statistically speaking, Atleti is Spain’s best away team averaging 2.36 points/game (8-2-1) away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Under 2.5 has hit in six of Villarreal’s last eight matches, and each of Atleti’s previous three matches in all competitions.

In head-to-head play, this has been a draw-happy matchup with Villarreal managing a single goal over the last four meetings.

Pick: Under 1.75 (+145) or Under 2.5 (-175)

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad Prediction

After an objectively terrible start to the campaign, Zidane’s Real Madrid (16-4-4) has roared back into the title race on its current four-game winning streak heading into La Liga Matchday 25.

Los Blancos face one of La Liga’s other red-hot teams on Monday, as Real Sociedad (11-8-5) visits the capital on the back of a three-win run.

A key to Madrid’s recent form has been improved defensive structure, with clean sheets (and Under 2.5s cashing) in four consecutive outings. Sociedad is the opposite, putting up four-goal efforts against Cadiz and Alaves domestically and getting thrashed to the same level by Manchester United in Europa League play.

Fresh off a 1-0 win at Atalanta in Champions League play — and on an extra day’s rest compared to Sociedad, who have the return leg at Manchester on Thursday — the hosts are undervalued at -117.

Yes, the last five meetings have been an even 2-1-2 split.

But Los Blancos are surging and Sociedad have repeatedly shown an inability to defend against quality opponents this season.

Pick: Real Madrid (-117)
