  • With three games remaining in the 2020/21 La Liga campaign, Atletico Madrid still hold a two point lead on Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are deadlocked at 75 points
  • Diego Simeone’s side is tasked with playing fifth place, Real Sociedad, while Real Madrid and Barcelona both play teams further down the table in Granada and Levante

This season has provided football fans around the world with some absolutely nail-biting title races. However, none of them can quite match up with the race that is currently taking place in La Liga. The three big dogs of Spain, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona are exchanging heavy blows, but nobody will take a full grip on the title as we head into La Liga Matchday 36.

Atletico Madrid had their chance this past weekend going up against Barcelona to give themselves a four point lead on their La Liga competition. Nonetheless, a 0-0 snooze fest prevented a clear favorite from emerging. Furthermore, Atletico Madrid have another big test this week when they take on Real Sociedad who have won three out of their last four.

If Atletico do drop points, it gives a massive opportunity for either Real Madrid or Barcelona to take charge of La Liga. Elsewhere, even the bottom part of the table in La Liga is highly contested. Nineteenth place Elche also takes on 16th place Alaves in a massive relegation battle this week.

Levante vs Barcelona Prediction

The first game to keep an eye on this weekend is between Levante and Barcelona. Barcelona are the heavy favorites in this La Liga match, and rightly so. However, in the last three games, they have begun to show some cracks, as they dropped five points to Granada and Atletico Madrid. Despite Messi scoring three goals in the same amount of games, his talents have not been enough to take them top of La Liga.

While clear of the drop zone, Levante have had a much more rocky spell as of late. They have failed to win five consecutive La Liga matches, conceding 11 goals along the way. Even though Levante has won three of their last eight matches against Barcelona, I expect them to lose quite badly. Messi and company will take their clean sheet frustrations from Atletico and apply them directly to this match.

My Pick: Barcelona -2 (-106)

Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad Prediction

The most significant match of the La Liga match week is most definitely between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Atletico have the lead in the La Liga table, but as of late, they crumble under the pressure of competition. Surely against Eibar, Huesca and Elche they played well, because those teams literally represent relegation on the table.

The other two matches in their last five included a loss to Athletic Bilbao and the draw to Barcelona. Real Sociedad has a good defense with the likes of Robin Le Normand and Aritz Elustondo, that can aid in stopping the threat of Luis Suarez. Personally, I think Atletico Madrid bottle the title, and this is the game where they let go of their grasp.

My Pick: Draw moneyline (+295)

Granada vs Real Madrid Prediction

Lastly, Granada and Real Madrid cap off the La Liga match week, in a must win for the Galacticos. It has not been a pleasant end to the season for Zidane’s squad, only winning one match across all competitions in their last five games. Surely, they have had some difficult opponents, but almost losing to Sevilla is just not a result you would expect.

If it were not for a late Eden Hazard goal, they easily could have walked away this weekend with empty hands. Luckily, this week they are playing Granada, a team that last beat them in 2013 due to a lone Cristiano Ronaldo own goal. Expect Madrid to win this game with one hand tied behind their backs.

My Pick: Real Madrid -1.5 (+118)
