Lazio will host Fiorentina on Saturday, June 27th, kick-off 3:45 PM EST at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It wasn’t the return that Lazio hoped for in their first match back earlier in the week, blowing a two-goal lead to a solid Atalanta side, eventually losing 3-2. Because of that defeat, it allowed Juventus to increase their gap in first place over Inzaghi’s men.

For Fiorentina, they played to a 1-1 draw with last-place Brescia and will be looking for the upset this weekend as they currently sit in 14th spot.

The last meeting between these two teams in October resulted in a 2-1 win for Lazio, thanks to a Ciro Immobile winner in the 89th minute.

Lazio Seeking Crucial Three Points

Lazio has been an exciting side to watch this term, giving Juventus a serious run for their money in regards to the Serie A title. But at this point in the season, any slip up can prove costly. For a team that’s been so good defensively, it was unlike Lazio to concede three goals after going up 2-0 against Atalanta. With Juve playing Lecce, there’s a high chance that the Old Lady will take away three points, so it’s crucial that Lazio comes out firing against Fiorentina on Saturday as they look to secure a victory.

From front to back, it’s been a banner year for Inzaghi’s squad. Striker Ciro Immobile has been a vital part of their success, bagging a league-high 27 goals. Luis Alberto has been a wizard in midfield as well, tallying a Serie A-best 13 assists.

Lazio has also performed well against top sides, beating Juve earlier in the year and also beating Inter Milan, who are right on their heels in third place. They’ve scored more than two goals per game and conceded less than one per match, a testament to their solidity all over the pitch. Before their loss to Atalanta, Lazio was undefeated in their last seven matches.

Fiorentina Looking to Play Spoiler

So far, this season has been a slight improvement for Giuseppe Iachini’s side after finishing in 16th place last year. Right now, they sit in 14th, but there are still many fixtures left to play. For the most part, the majority of Fiorentina’s defeats this season have come by relatively small margins. They’ve let in just 37 goals in 27 matches, but production in the final third has been lacking, scoring just 33 times. Draws against Juve, Atalanta, and Inter have proven their ability to keep Italy’s best at bay.

If they’re able to even get a point out of this meeting with Lazio, it’s really going to help Juve in their quest for a ninth-straight title. At this point, it’s a matter of playing spoiler and hopefully, surging into the top ten. Just four points separate Fiorentina and tenth-place Cagliari, who they play in a couple of weeks.

Key Stats

Lazio continues to be lethal on the attack, scoring at least two goals in 18 of their last 22 matches. They haven’t lost on home soil this term either, going 11-3-0 in the process. All three of their defeats have come on the road. Fiorentina has scored just four times in their last five appearances, but have lost just once in that span, including three draws. Lazio has dominated their Matchday 28 counterparts though, going undefeated against Fiorentina in their last six meetings across all competitions.

Best Bet

With Lazio realizing just how important every match is right now and their form before the defeat to Atalanta, I do believe they will secure three points at home on Saturday. It won’t be a blow out by any means, with Simone Inzaghi’s squad winning by one or two goals.
