It is Liverpool vs Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday, May 6 at 2:45 pm ET in the EPL. The Reds’ penultimate home game of the season gives them the chance to retake the lead of the table, albeit possibly for only 24 hours, with Man City not playing Newcastle United until Sunday.

With City holding a slender one-point lead at the top, this is a perfect opportunity for Jurgen Klopp’s men to turn up the heat.

We preview Liverpool vs Tottenham and offer below the best picks for this massive EPL  clash.

They list over 2.5 goals at a very short -177, based on Liverpool’s free-scoring front three doing to Spurs what they have done to everybody of late. On that same basis, the +145 on offer for over 3.5 goals is far more attractive.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction

A record-breaking quadruple is still very much on for Liverpool, with Klopp’s men edging ever closer, game-by-game, to achieving this feat for the first time ever in English soccer. With the EFL Cup already in the bag and upcoming finals against Chelsea (FA Cup) and Real Madrid (Champions League).

The only competition in which Liverpool’s fate is not in their own hands is the Premier League, where they currently trail Man City by a single point having the same amount of games, which makes Saturday’s clash with Tottenham doubly crucial. To add to the tension, they play Tottenham almost 24 hours before City plays Newcastle, and so have the chance to go top.

A Champions League Final Awaits for the Reds

But Spurs have their own incentive – a Champions League place for next season – and this will be no easy ride for Klopp’s men, who cannot afford a shaky opening 45 like the one they produced in Villarreal in midweek in their Champions League Semi-final second-leg. On the flip-side, their second-half performance was outstanding and from 2-0 down they won the game 3-2 to clinch their place in the Paris showpiece.

Spurs in Battle With North London Rivals for UCL Spot

Spurs’ battle for the fourth and final Champions League place has boiled down to a two-way fight between them and their north London rivals, Arsenal. As things stand, Tottenham sits two points behind the Gunners – who currently hold that fourth position – so there is little room for error from either. Interestingly, the pair play each other next week.

But with Arsenal at home to lowly Leeds United on Sunday, there is no way Spurs can afford any negative thoughts ahead of this game and, to be fair, with Antonio Conte in charge there’s a new-found confidence around this Tottenham team. They’ll not be fazed by their Anfield surroundings.

Good Record Against Top Two for Tottenham

One thing very much in Spurs’ favor is the fact they are unbeaten against the EPL’s top two this season, with Conte’s charges beating Man City both home and away and drawing 2-2 with Liverpool back in December.  The Reds’ are renowned for playing a high defensive line and Spurs’ strength is very much the Kane/Son attacking axis, so this could be far more interesting than the odds suggest.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Team Lineups and Injuries

Liverpool Projected Lineup: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Jota.

Liverpool Injuries: Firmino.

Tottenham Projected Lineup: Lloris, Romero, Dier, Davies, Emerson, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Sessegnon, Kulusevski, Kane, Son

Tottenham Injuries: Doherty, Reguilon, Tanganga, Skipp.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Picks

As they edge ever closer to the possibility of a staggering quadruple, so the pressure increases on Liverpool. With four high-pressure, highly-charged, ‘cup finals’ to go, it’s likely they will drop points somewhere – as will City. With Spurs in a rich vein of form, this could be one of those days.  With the draw at nearly 4/1, that, for me, represents excellent value.

Picks: Liverpool and Tottenham to draw (+390) / Over 3.5 goals (+145)
