MLS Goalscoring Props for Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi & Josef Martinez

Another season of Major League Soccer begins this weekend and with that in mind, books have released Over/Under goal props for three of the league’s top players in LAFC teammates Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, and Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez.

Carlos Vela 2020 Goal Odds

Vela had a breathtaking campaign last season, bagging an MLS all-time best 34 goals while tallying 15 assists for LAFC. The Mexican striker proved to be arguably the most versatile and dangerous attacker in the league and there are no signs of him slowing down this season.

In his first year with LAFC in 2018, he scored just 14 goals. But 2019 was a year where it was basically impossible for Vela to miss the back of the net. He and Ibrahimovic went head to head in the scoring race, with Vela beating out the Swede by four goals by the season’s end.

With the former Real Sociedad star coming off a career-year, I expect him to win the Golden Boot once again in 2020.

Diego Rossi 2020 Goal Odds

Rossi and Vela formed a lethal partnership in LA last season, having their hand in 72 of LAFC’s 85 goals. Rossi netted 16 times in 2019 while assisting another seven. It was the Uruguayan’s second season in the MLS, having scored 12 goals in ’18.

He’s showed steady improvement in the final third as the years go on, upping his goal total in each season. With a player like Vela alongside him up front, he’s getting tremendous service. The opportunities to bag more goals in 2020 will be very present.

At just 21 years of age, Rossi’s best years are still ahead of him. His tremendous pace is one of his best assets. Paired with his ability to finish at a high rate, I expect the youngster to better his goal total from ’19 and get closer to the 20-goal mark this year.

Josef Martinez 2020 Goal Odds

Atlanta’s star striker had an impressive season in 2019, finishing third in the Golden Boot race with 27 goals to his name. However, he failed to reach his 18′ total where he scored a tremendous 31 goals. It was his first season without Miguel Almiron, who left for Newcastle in January of last year. He was an instrumental part of Atlanta United’s attack and a player who would feed Martinez a lot of dangerous balls.

The Venezuelan did miss five matches last year though, so that could definitely have played a part in his search of the Golden Boot. He’s become the main man in Atlanta and a household name in Major League Soccer thanks to his abilities in the final third. Martinez accounted for more than half of his team’s goals last season as well. They scored 58 times and Martinez netted 27 of them while also adding four assists.

If he stays healthy, I do expect Martinez to get close to 30 goals once again this season.
