The LA Galaxy and Atlanta are also off. The likes of Portland, Orlando, St. Louis and Nashville all had Wednesday off and thus should be fresher come Saturday.

We predicted many goals in our Wednesday MLS picks, and thee were 41 goals (3.41 average) over the round’s 12 games. That saw our picks go 2-1. Unfortunately one of those picks came in the only scoreless game of the round between TFC and Chicago.

Inter Miami vs DC United Prediction

It’s back-to-back shutouts against Miami as the Herons head into MLS Week 17 against DC this weekend. They lost 1-0 at home to the Red Bulls on Wednesday and 1-0 in Montreal the match prior. That also extends their current losing streak to four games. That proved too much for David Beckham and Miami ownership who gave head coach Phil Neville the sack on Thursday, as well as Assistant Coach Jason Kreis. Javier Morales, another current assistant, will take over on an interim basis.

Neville becomes the third coach to be let go this season after Ezra Hendrickson in Chicago and Gerhard Struber were let go in early May. Will Miami get a “new coach bump” this weekend? It’s tough to say. The Fire won their next two games, are 3-3-1 across all comps and have scored in 6/7 since. The Red Bulls also won their next two games, are 4-1-2 across all comps and have scored in five of seven. So there’s some recent evidence to show some positive improvment could be coming with a new voice on the sidelines.

Going back to Miami’s last game, playing to an Under against the Red Bulls (more on them later) is not surprising. New York is 14-2 to Under 2.5 totals and their games average the fewest goals at a paltry 1.5. Prior to their recent two defeats, Miami’s games had seen four, three, three, three and three goals, with both teams scoring in their previous five.

At DRV PNK Stadium, Miami, win or lose (they rarely draw), have scored in 21 of their past 23 games.

DC drew 2-2 at home to Montreal on Wednesday and lost 2-1 in Toronto last weekend. They have a single loss, but also a single win their past five (1-3-1).

In two meetings last season the teams drew 2-2 in Miami and Miami won 3-2 in DC. That’s Miami’s only win over DC in the short head-to-head history between these teams. DC owns a 3-1-1 all-time record over their five meetings.

DC doesn’t keep many clean sheets. They have just three this season. And on the road DC has only three wins in their past 18. But Miami has kept just two clean sheets this season and none since Week 2. They’ve also conceded the joint-most shots on target (78) alongside Colorado this season.

And while these goals would have come with a younger Josef Martinez on Atlanta, Martinez has scored the most goals against United in his career, eight goals in 11 games. Let’s back both teams scoring in the MLS odds in our soccer picks for this one.

  • MLS Picks: Both teams to score (-150), risk 1 unit at Bet365

NYCFC vs New England Revolution Prediction

After 3-1 midweek defeat to Cincinnati, coupled by Toronto and Chicago picking up a point each in their 0-0 draw, the Pigeons have dropped to sole possession of 14th place in the East at 4-4-7 and 16 points.

For as poor as NYCFC have been away from home (0-3-5), they’ve at least been more competitive at home (4-1-2) where they’ve scored 12 of their 17 goals this season. In fact, they’ve scored a goal in each of their seven games in New York.

But, home or away, across all competitions, they’re winless in seven and have been outscored 13-5.

For the Revolution, if you told Bruce Arena his team would score six goals across two games, and without the services of several of his top players, he’d probably be thrilled. Carles Gil and Bobby Wood have each contributed two goals each of those six. However, despite scoring three goals in back-to-back games, the Revs also allowed three in each and enter MLS Week 17 off two 3-3 draws with Atlanta and Chicago.

They’ve actually allowed three goals in three straight when you include a 3-0 road loss to Philadephia. They’re now winless in five and have been outscored 12-7.

These teams just met in April in Foxborough, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Each team put three shots on target with Gil and Talles Magno cancelling eachother out with late goals to see them split the points,

I think this one could be a bit more open where we see both teams scoring again, but someone finding a second. A bet on both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals is 5-2 and on a 4-0 run in NYC home games.

  • MLS Picks: Both teams to score & over 2.5 (+110), risk 1 unit at Bet365

FC Cincinnati vs Chicago Fire Prediction

Supporters’ Shield leading FC Cincinnati went into New York on Wednesday walked away with a 3-1 road win. They’re now second-favorites in the MLS Cup odds at +550, behind LAFC at +350 at Bet365. FCC are eight points clear with 36 points compared to second-place Nashville with 28. Those 36 points are the most for a team after 15 games in MLS history, exlcuding the shootout era.

Luciano Acosta, Alvaro Barreal and Brandon Vazquez all tallied for Cincy in Wednesday’s win, their fifth straight, where they’ve outscored opponents 12-4. They’re also undefeated in seven and still have just a single defeat on the season at 11-3-1. At home at TQL Stadium, that record is still spotless at 8-0-0, to go with 15 goals scored and only five conceded. At home, Cincinnati, has just one loss in their past 19 games dating back to last season. Add in a couple of US Open Cup wins this season and that’s just one home loss in 21.

Contrast that with Chicago’s road form and it could be a long day for the Fire. They’re 1-2-4 away from home this season and have just two road wins in their past 12, and four in their past 22. That said, Chicago has been treading water of late with three straight draws — 0-0 (TOR), 3-3 (NE) and 3-3 (ATL). But, it’s still only one win in nine in league play for Frank Klopas’ side.

Cincy win at -145 in the MLS odds for this week.

MLS Parlay Picks

Finally let’s give you one more and it’s a parlay with two legs for your MLS Week 17 picks.

Philadelphia Union vs CF Montreal

Big contrast in home/away records between these sides. Philly is 5-2-1 with 14 goals scored and just five conceded at home this season. Meanwhile, Montreal is 1-1-7, five goals for and 21 conceded away from home. The Union have won 16/19 home games in MLS and own a ridiculous 58-11 goal differential in those games.

They’ve kept clean sheets in each of their past three at home, 4/5 at home and have five home clean sheets this season. We can add to these impressive home numbers by including that across all comps they’ve lost just 1/30 recent home games.

Montreal was down 2-0 in DC on Wednesday but came back with goals in the 80′ and 82′ minutes to draw 2-2, the seventh time in nine road games this season they’ve allowed multiple goals. Montreal also collected points through a comeback against this Philly team earlier this season. Down 2-1. and after a 69′ minute Julan Carranza red card, CF Montreal scored in the 90′ and 98′ minutes for a 3-2 win.

Philly responds with a win here. That’s -188 in the MLS odds.

New York Red Bulls vs Orlando City SC

Both teams have made money for Under bettors this season. New York especially so at 14-2 to Under 2.5 totals and Orlando to a lesser extent at 8-6.

The last two meetings between these sides each finished 1-0 for the Lions.

Orlando games have been slightly higher scoring of late, 1-1, 3-1, 1-1 and 2-2. But considering the Red Bulls are first in shot attempts/shots on target allowed, and third in xGA and goals allowed, and have only seen more than one goal scored once in their past six games, this looks like another low-scoring game.

You could likely bet Under 2.5 (-150) as a single play in your MLS picks, but for added safety, betting Under 3.5 in this parlay is another option. New York is 16-0 to Under 3.5 totals, while Orlando is 11-3.

  • MLS Parlay Pick: Philadelphia to win / New York vs Orlando under 3.5 (-105); 1 unit at Caesars Sportsbook
