  • Liverpool, Leicester, and Chelsea are all vying for a spot in next year’s Champions League on Matchday 38

Although Man City has won the title and United has second locked up, the remaining two spots in next year’s Champions League campaign are still up for grabs. Chelsea sits in third place, just a point ahead of Liverpool and Leicester heading into the final weekend on Premier League Matchday 38. The Foxes essentially sit in fifth due to their goal difference.

A lot can change by the end of Sunday, with all three of these sides fighting for their European lives. While Chelsea can clinch an automatic berth in next year’s competition by beating City on May 29th in Porto, they would ideally like to finish in the top four here.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea Prediction

Aston Villa will be looking to play spoiler when they host Chelsea on Sunday in Premier League Matchday 38. The Lions have enjoyed a respectable campaign and with Jack Grealish finally back in the starting XI mid-week, Villa upset Tottenham 2-1 in North London.

Ollie Watkins scored his 14th goal of term in what has been a brilliant debut season in the Premier League for the Englishman. Dean Smith’s men are likely to finish up in 11th place regardless of the result, but finish on a high note is always a positive.

For the Blues, there are boatloads at stake. While a draw could potentially still leave them in the top four, the full three points would be the ideal scenario. Thomas Tuchel’s squad picked up a crucial 2-1 victory against Leicester on Tuesday as they got revenge for their FA Cup Final defeat at the hands of the Foxes a couple of days prior.

While the reverse fixture between Chelsea and Aston Villa ended in a draw, the visitors have won 10 of their last 12 games against the Villains. On top of that, the Blues have secured three straight victories at Villa Park.

The result doesn’t matter at all for the hosts, while Chelsea desperately needs a win. It will be close, but they’ll get the job done.

Pick: Chelsea to Win by 1 (+260)

Leicester City vs Tottenham Prediction

After spending basically the entire season in a UCL spot, Leicester now finds themselves on the outside looking in entering Premier League Matchday 38. But this clash is also just as important for Tottenham, who needs three points to have any chance of getting in Europa.

The Foxes have really slipped up as of late, going 2-1-2 in their last five. While they did win the FA Cup, missing out on Champions League football would be a real shame after such a promising campaign. Luckily, their form against Spurs has been good in recent memory, winning two of the last three league meetings.

Tottenham has been very disappointing this term and with Harry Kane recently voicing his desire to leave the club, things couldn’t get much worse. They suffered defeat against Villa on Wednesday and have lost two of their last three matches.

If Spurs did finish outside of the top six, it would be the first time they miss out on Europe since the 2009/10 season. Basically, they must win this Leicester clash and pray West Ham loses to Southampton.

Leicester won the reverse fixture back in December by two goals but with this potentially being Kane’s last game in a Tottenham uniform, I think he’s going to play a key part here and get his side a point. In the process, the Foxes will end up in Europa for the second year in a row.

Pick: Draw +310, Harry Kane to Score +148

West Ham vs Southampton Prediction

The Hammers welcome Southampton to the London Stadium on Sunday for a crucial Premier League Matchday 38 fixture. While West Ham had their sights on the top four, finishing in a Europa League spot will surely be considered a massive success. All they need is a draw or win to secure it, while a loss could also still see them through, depending on what Spurs do and goal difference between the two.

David Moyes’ side buried relegated West Brom  3-1 on Wednesday, but that was just their second win in the last six appearances. West Ham is unbeaten in six games against the Saints, however, which is a positive sign ahead of the final match of the term.

After such a promising start to the season, Southampton have looked poor since the turn of the year. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s men have won just four of their last 20 games since beating Liverpool on January 4th. But, before tasting defeat against Leeds earlier this week, the Saints did collect back-to-back victories over Crystal Palace and Fulham.

The Hammers’ form vs Southampton has been far too impressive to bet against and you never know what you’re getting from the Saints due to their inconsistencies. Take West Ham on the moneyline.

Pick: West Ham -143
