  • Despite an international break looming, the Premier League has a handful of fixtures this weekend including a massive one in the middle of the table between Aston Villa and Tottenham

As the 2020/21 Premier League rounds its final corner, Manchester City have one hand on the title, leading second-place Manchester United by 14 points. Nonetheless, there is still so much to play for with European qualification and relegation on the line. This weekend features four Premier League matches across England with a few massive encounters.

After losing their second leg Europa League match to Olympiacos, Arsenal must travel to fifth place West Ham. This will be no easy match for the Gunners as West Ham look to crack into the Premier League’s top four with a game in hand on Chelsea. Another London side, Tottenham will be tasked with playing Aston Villa after their tragic fall out of the Europa League to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.

Finally, Brighton play Newcastle in what is a seismic clash at the bottom of the Premier League table. They currently sit in 16th and 17th place, respectively, and are both just meters away from the relegation zone. It might be a shortened Premier League weekend, but there will be definitely no shortage of entertainment.

Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction

The first match to cover on the Premier League weekend’s slate is between Brighton and Newcastle. Both sides only have one win in their last six matches, which coincidentally were both against Southampton. It is hard to put it into words how important this match is for both clubs as they face potential relegation. However, Newcastle have the privilege of playing Sheffield and Fulham the last two games of the season which makes this match a smidge less important for them.

Historically, Newcastle has not won this head-to-head fixture since 2017, when both sides were playing in the Championship. Since, Brighton has won three matches while drawing four. In only one of those seven matches, the total goal count went over 2.5, which was in their most recent match featuring a Neal Maupay brace. I favor this one to be a low-scoring, nervy Premier League contest.

My Pick: Under 1.5 total goals (+200)

West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction

The next Premier League match of the week is at the London Stadium between two historic London sides. West Ham and Arsenal square off in a head-to-head duel that Arsenal has won the last three times out. The Gunners have been in shambles at times this year, but credit must be given for their play over the last month. With only one loss in their last six, they have accumulated some impressive wins against sides like Benfica, Leicester and Tottenham.

Meanwhile, West Ham have been much improved in the Premier League this year. Their form looks shaky on paper, but their only losses in 28 games have come against both Manchester sides, Liverpool and Chelsea. David Moyes has done a brilliant job with the Irons, and I favor them to beat Arsenal this weekend as they push Chelsea for a Champions League spot.

My Pick: West Ham moneyline (+180)

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction

The last match of the Premier League weekend is between Aston Villa and Tottenham in Birmingham at Villa Park. Tottenham are coming off an absolute disgrace of a showing in Croatia, losing 3-0 to Dinamo Zagreb, who lost their manager on Monday due to being arrested. Their mentality is so far off the levels they were at a couple of years ago, and frankly they look like a broken side.

On the contrary, Aston Villa have also been a mixed bag in the Premier League as of late. With one win in their last six matches, some pundits are questing if their offense has dried up. Nonetheless, the Villains will most likely be without Jack Grealish again which gives a huge blow to their creative spark. Despite all of this, I still expect Aston Villa to come through with a win. Spurs look utterly defeated and their is no quick resolution to their problems.

My Pick: Aston Villa moneyline (+195)
