Kasatkina Comes Back in the Quarters

After a dramatic first set, Kasatkina saw herself in a must win situation against American Madison Keys. But the Russian managed to build a comeback and win 6(5)-7(7), 6-4, 6-2. Kasatkina had never really had success against Keys, losing eight of their nine previous encounters. But she managed to find a way this time.

Kasatkina managed to convert 10 break points, while Keys had 13 opportunities, but only managed to convert seven.

Her first two matches in the tournament were strong showings, as she defeated Madison Brengle and Bernarda Pera in straight sets.

Jabeur’s Third Straight Semifinal

The second seed has earned a spot in the Charleston semifinal for the third straight year. This year she found herself earning her spot after her quarterfinal opponent Anna Kalinskaya retired from the match at 6-0, 4-1.

Kalinskaya said to retire from the match due to illness. The Russian wasn’t playing very well from the beginning, and something definitely seemed off. But Jabeur was commanding the match from the start, and had broke serve four times, and saved all the break points she had faced.

Her two other matches in the tournament were also strong showings for the 28-year old. But she’ll now look towards Kasatkina, as she prepares for the semifinal match.

Familiar Faces

Kasatkina and Jabeur are definitely not strangers. This will be the seventh career meeting between the two. Jabeur holds the head-to-head edge with a 4-2 record against Kasatkina, and has won the last four meetings.

Kasatkina vs Jabeur Pick

Kasatkina and Jabeur both have an interesting style of play, and even more so, both players’ know quite  a bit about the other.

It’s most likely that Jabeur is going to head into this match fairly confident, given her history against Kasatkina, and how she’s been playing this last week. She’s breezed through her opponents this week, and has always been fairly strong on clay.

If Jabeur comes out strong, don’t be surprised if she finds a way to seal the win fairly quickly. Yes, Kasatkina is playing good tennis right now, it’s hard to put a direct comparison to Jabeur, who has not only been playing well overall, but has a historically strong showing at this tournament.

Best Bet: Ons Jabeur 2-0 (+125)
