Fritz’s Hot Streak

The American is riding a 22-6 record in 2023 as he heads into the quarterfinals in Monte-Carlo.

On route to the fourth round, Fritz has definitely been tested. His opening set of his first match was marathon, as he went onto win 7(12)-6(10), 6-2. He then found himself down a set, as he pieced together a comeback against Jiri Lehecka to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

After losing the first set, the American managed to take control of the match, and just outplayed his opponent.

The Champ Continues

The 2021 and 2022 Monte-Carlo champion continued to thrive on clay as he defeated Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. This has now extended Tsisipas’ streak at the Monte-Carlo Masters to 12 matches.

On route to the third round, Tsitispas looked right at home. After a bye in the first round, he went up against Benjamin Bonzi, and the match ended in a walkover.

The 24-year old put on a masterclass against Jarry. In the 93-minute match, Tsitsipas won 80 per cent of points behind his first serve, and went on to save both of the break points he faced.

He’ll now look forward to his quarterfinal match against Taylor Fritz, in attempts to extend his 14-2 Monte-Carlo record.

Tsitsipas Leads Head-to-Head

The Greek star leads the head-to-head record 3-0, with their first match taking place in 2019, and their most recent one happening at the Australian Open last year. None of the previous matches have been played on a clay court surface.

Fritz vs Tsitsipas Prediction

These two have very similar playing styles, which should make for an exciting match. They’re strong baseline players, who hit the ball hard.

But there’s no denying the fact that the Greek is the stronger player on clay. His clay-court record speaks for itself, as he sits at 79-25 on the surface. Fritz on the other hand has a 27-24 record on clay.

It’s expected that Tsitsipas should come out on top, but Fritz will definitely be his toughest opponent to date in the tournament. For that reason, Fritz could steal a set. But ultimately, it’s unlikely that he takes the match.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 sets (+125)
