Miami Open Men’s Singles Round of 16 Odds & Picks
- At 26, Nick Kyrgios is the eldest of the 16 remaining players at the Miami Open
- No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and No. 2 Alexander Zverev remain the favorites
- We break down the round of 16, and make a few predictions
If you had said at the beginning of 2022 that Aussies Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis would be making deep runs in tournaments, you might have shocked a few people.
But the two are enjoying career renaissances after years of struggle, and it’s value added to the men’s singles draws where the top two seeds remain the favorites to win.

It is a noteworthy – and rather eye-opening – fact that at 26, Kyrgios is the oldest player to reach the round of 16 at this year’s Miami Open.

The kids are all right, it seems.
Casper Ruud vs Cameron Norrie Prediction
Ruud is 2-0 against Norrie in their careers.
But the change of circumstances for the British No. 1 makes you think he has a pretty good shot at a longshot victory in their round-of-16 matchup Tuesday.
Ruud was on an absolute roll when he defeated Norrie in the San Diego final last fall. And he had to come back from a 1-6 first set to win at the ATP Tour Finals.
Cameron Norrie has reached the fourth round of the Miami Open for the first time.
His straight-set win over France's Hugo Gaston means he's still on course to break into the top 10 of the ATP rankings. 📈

But after a slow start, Norrie has come on in 2022. He lost to Félix Auger-Aliassime in Rotterdam (who won the title). He won Delray Beach. And then he lost in the Acapulco final to Rafael Nadal. At Indian Wells, an ascendant Carlos Alcaraz defeated him. Not a bad defeat in the bunch. And since beginning the season 0-4, he’s on a 15-3 run.
Ruud won a tournament on clay in Buenos Aires last month. But beyond that, he hasn’t impressed even if hasn’t dropped a set in a good draw through his first two matches in Miami.
Pick: Norrie in Three Sets (+380)
Daniil Medvedev vs Jenson Brooksby Prediction
Young American Brooksby somehow escaped the steady (but unconvincing in 2022) Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round. And he was down 0-4 in the third set before he came all the way back.
But he’ll find himself up against it against Daniil Medvedev, who needs to reach the semifinals in Miami to regain the top spot in the rankings.
Medvedev needs to beat Brooksby, then Hubert Hurkacz or Lloyd Harris to make the final four, and you imagine he fancies his chances.
Brooksby, just 21 and seemingly a very annoying opponent to face (we mean that in a good way) has faced Novak Djokovic once, but this is his first meeting with Medvedev. The Russian isn’t likely to be put off by anything going on on the other side of the court.
The young American also has little time to recover from the three hours of mental and physical effort against Bautista Agut. And he isn’t likely to have nearly the same success against Medvedev’s far superior serve and firepower.
But … if you want to take a chance on a longshot, the odds of Brooksby coming back from a first-set loss to win in three (something he has done quite a few times this season) stands at +1400.
Pick: Medvedev in Two Sets (-410)
Taylor Fritz vs Miomir Kecmanovic Prediction
Under normal circumstances, the way Fritz has been playing , you would give him the nod in this one.
But Kecmanovic is having a super season – he’s just steady as a rock, and quick as the wins.
Fritz, meanwhile, is starting to feel it after the career-defining run to the Indian Wells title just 10 days ago, on home soil.
It’s a lot more tennis than he’s used to. And he’s already had two challenging matches against qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin and American peer Tommy Paul to get to this one.
It’s a rematch of their quarterfinal meeting in Indian Wells just a few weeks ago, a match that went three sets before Fritz ran away with it in the end.
Kecmanovic is fresher. And he also now knows he can stay with Fritz.
The American likely will prevail, but it might take awhile.
