  • Check out who we believe will walk away with the victory

It’s been a long and competitive week for the players at the WTA Adelaide International.

From the very beginning the field that was stacked with some of the top players in the world. On one side of the net will stand Ashleigh Barty, a player who many believed would be in this position since she is the number one ranked player in the world. On the other side of the net will stand Dayana Yastremska. A great player in her own right but no one expected her to be here.

Yastremska has produced some of the most exciting upsets in recent memory. If she can get one more upset under her belt than she will bring home her first trophy of the year, but will Barty be a bridge too far for Yastremska to cross?

What’s Gotten Into Dayana Yastremska

Dayana Yastremska is the 24th ranked player in the world so by all means, she is a great player, but what she has been able to do during the Adelaide International has been otherworldly.

At just 19 years of age, everyone needs to pay attention to this young lady.

In her first-round matchup against Timea Babos she took down the veteran player in straight sets. She then followed that up with a straight-sets victory over former grand slam winner Angelique Kerber. In the quarterfinals, Donna Vekic was expected to provide her with a stiff test but that just didn’t happen. She too was dispatched of in straight sets.

Awaiting Yastremska in the semifinals was Aryna Sabalenka. The run of Yastremska was all but over. At least, that was the initial thought. Yet, Sabalenka met the same fate as those before her, a straight-sets loss.

With upset win after upset win under her belt, does Yastremska have what it takes to take down the number one player in the world?

Ashleigh Barty Shows That She is Currently the Best

With Ashleigh Barty’s great 2019 now in the rearview mirror, she’s started her 2020 in impressive fashion.

The Adelaide International began with a close three-set win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The following round was a bit easier as it only took her two sets to get rid of Marketa Vondrousova.

The run of the number one player in the world almost came to a close as the unranked Danielle Collins took the first set in the semifinals and forced Barty to a third set. Ultimately she would get through her tough encounter to find herself in the finals.

Barty might be the number one player in the world but Dayana Yastremska looks like a future grand slam champion.

The history between these two isn’t a long one, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing how Yastremska is only 19 years of age. Still, in their one and only encounter last year at the Miami Masters, Barty routed her 6-4 6-1.

Although it was not a competitive matchup when the two first matched up, with the current form of Yastremska, you have to believe that this time around the scoreboard will look a lot different.

Final Pick: Ashleigh Barty

No one, absolutely no one has had a better run than Dayana Yastremska. Ranked player after ranked player has fallen at her feet. It isn’t just that she’s winning but just look at how easy she is making it look.

With that being said, however, there is a reason why Ashleigh Barty is the number one ranked player in the world. With the Australian Open just a few days away, her confidence can go through the roof with a victory here.

Expect her to do just that and roll into the Australian Open as one of the favorites.
