Aces Are Rolling

No team has played to the level of Las Vegas this season, and it doesn’t look like anyone will be able to stop the Aces at the moment. Las Vegas not only entered the season as  the favorite in the 2023 WNBA Championship odds, but its remains that way at the midway point of the regular season.

The Aces have the best offense in the WNBA, which has been key to their nine-game winning streak and winners of 16 of the first 17 games. Las Vegas is averaging a league-best 93.4 points per game while ranking first in field goal percentage (50%) and second in three-point percentage (37.6%). The Aces have been a tough team to stop, as the Wings know well after just facing the title favorites.

Wings Can Put Up a Fight

Dallas has put up a strong fight against a few of the top teams in the league this season, with the latest example being Wednesday’s game in Las Vegas. The Wings are a sneaky team that can put up points from anywhere on the floor, which matches up well against a team like the Aces.

Dallas comes into Friday with the fourth-best offensive in the WNBA (84.2 points per game) despite ranking 11th in the league in field goal percentage (41.2%) and last in three-point percentage (28.9%). The Wings have done a great job at the free throw line, ranking second at 83.9%, and have the sixth-best defensive rating (100.4) which has kept them in games.

Keys to the Game

A few areas of focus will be important for both Las Vegas and Dallas to key in on in the rematch Friday night, mainly the three-ball and controlling the paint on both sides.

In the first game Wednesday, the Aces connected on nine threes while shooting 46.2% from the field, something that fueled a late-game comeback that the Wings couldn’t stop. Dallas did do a nice job of running the floor and owning the paint area, outscoring Las Vegas 16-8 in fast break points and 44-34 in points in the paint.

Whoever can control and own those areas of the game Friday night should be in a good position to come out on top with a win.

Aces vs Wings Picks

Although the first meeting of the season nearly resulted in Dallas coming away with an upset victory on the road, it’s likely that the best team in the WNBA figures things out on Friday night in Texas to take down the Wings with ease in a different location. Las Vegas is just too talented and too deep to control like Dallas did a few nights ago, which should set the stage for the Aces to extend their winning streak to 10 straight.

As for Aces vs Wings picks for the night, go with the Wings once again covering the spread and putting up a solid fight against Las Vegas. This game likely won’t swing in Dallas’ direction early on like it did Wednesday, but the Wings should be able to bring things within 10.5 points.

  • The Pick: Dallas +10.5 (-110)
