2019 Davis Cup Finals Group Winner Odds & Predictions

The 108th edition of the Davis Cup, but the inaugural Davis Cup Finals will be played in Madrid, Spain, on a hard court from November 18-24. 18 countries will take place, and they’re made up of the four semifinalists from the previous year, two wildcard teams, and 12 winners of the qualifier round that took place in February of this year.
The format of the tournament has changed this year. The biggest change is that it will take place at one location and in just a week. All 18 teams have been divided into six round-robin groups of three teams. The winner of each group, and the two best second-place teams will be advancing to the quarterfinals. The new format has caused a little bit of uproar from players like Andy Murray who thinks the format will take away from the atmosphere in Madrid.

Group A will have some tough competitions between France and Serbia, and could go either way. France has Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga competing for them, and Serbia, of course, has Novak Djokovic as well as Filip Krajinovic. France has slightly better odds than Serbia, and is slightly stronger overall.
Expect France to take this group, but Serbia has a strong chance of being one of the second-place teams to move on.

Group B Odds

Spain is currently the favorite the win not only Group B, but the entire tournament. One thing that could stand in their way of winning is whether or not Rafael Nadal competes. Nadal is recovering from an abdominal injury, that caused some issue for him early in the ATP Finals.
Despite Russia’s odds, expect this group to be a battle between Spain and Russia. If Spain competes without Nadal, they still have Roberto Bautista Agut, who is ranked 9th in the world, and Pablo Carreno Busta.
Russia will have players including Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev. It looks like Russia has a great opportunity to win, especially if Nadal pulls out, they could perform a great upset.

Germany, Argentina, and Chile all have competitive teams coming into this tournament. But Argentina has players like Diego Schwartzman and Leonardo Mayer. Germany has Dominik Koepfer, who was ranked 118th going into the US Open, and really broke through during that tournament.
Germany should be able to come out on top.

Group D Odds

Despite Belgium’s +200 odds, this group is probably one of the easier groups to determine who will move on to the quarterfinals. Australia is the strongest team here by far. With players like Nick Kyrgios, John Millman, and Alex De Minaur. Apart from Belgian Davis Goffin, there are no other players from Belgium or Colombia in the ATP Top 50 rankings.
There’s no competition that Australia will be the team that is moving on from this group.

Group E Odds

As a whole, Group E is the weakest group in the tournament. Don’t expect any of these teams to go very far beyond the quarterfinals. Obviously Great Britain has players like Andy Murray and Jamie Murray.

But it’s been hard to predict how Andy Murray will compete. This season has not been his best, and he has stated that he has his eyes on the Australian Open in the new year.
Great Britain will most likely be the team from this group to move on.

One of the biggest stories for Canada is that Milos Raonic has withdrawn from the tournament with a back injury. Raonic has battled injuries in recent time, and has only played three official matches this fall. World No. 94, Brayden Schnur will replace Raonic. Canadian young phenoms, Denis Shapovalov and Fexlix Auger-Aliassime will join Schnur and Pospisil to make up the Canadian team.
A back injury has Milos Raonic out of the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid, which begin next Monday on Sportsnet. Taking his spot on the roster: Brayden Schnur, who has had a really solid 2019 season.

This group is similar to Group C in terms of competition. All three teams here have the talent to win the Davis Cup title. Despite what the odds say, Canada and Italy actually have a slightly better team than the United States. But with Raonic withdrawing, it’s Italy that could come out on top of this group.
