Packers and Rams’ Super Bowl Odds Still Listed Longer Than +2000 After 2-0 Starts – Do Either Present Value?
- The Green Bay Packers and LA Rams remain outside of the top ten teams favored to win Super Bowl 55
- Both teams’ odds have improved, but their path to win is difficult
- Odds for the top 15 teams to win Super Bowl 55 are listed below
After two weeks of play, the 2-0 starts by the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams might not raise too many eyebrows.
What is a bit surprising is the fact that neither team has seen a significant change in their odds of winning Super Bowl 55 after impressive performances and perfect starts to the season.
Both began the year among the top 15 teams most likely to win the championship. In FanDuel’s preseason odds, the Rams started with +2800 odds and the Packers were slightly ahead at +2500. Heading into this week both saw modest positive moves as teams like Dallas, San Francisco, and Tampa Bay all dropped one of their first couple results but remained bigger favorites.

As both continue to look up at the favorites on the Super Bowl odds, the bigger question isn’t so much if they are capable of winning the Super Bowl, but rather if either has enough depth to go the distance.
One of the biggest knocks on the Rams coming into the season, particularly after signing Jared Goff, Jalen Ramsey, Cooper Kupp, and Robert Woods to big extensions, was that there wouldn’t be enough cash leftover to support the rest of the roster. This comes after the team incurred more than $20 million in dead money after releasing Todd Gurley in the spring.

Furthermore, navigating the NFC West seems a more daunting task than in years past. The Arizona Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start and the Seattle Seahawks looking rejuvenated after trading for safety Jamal Adams and dropping 38 points on Atlanta in Week 1. San Francisco has had some concerning injuries to start the year, but can’t be forgotten as the NFC representative in last year’s title game.
Although Green Bay’s season-opening win against Minnesota might not be quite as impressive as initially thought, if the Packers can fight through a tough few weeks, they arguably have an easier schedule than the Rams in the second half of the year with their NFC North foes under-performing early on.
Costly Week 2 Wins For Both
Even in his sixteenth season with the Packers, few question Aaron Rodgers’ ability to play at a high level and lead Green Bay to another successful season.
However, after the Packers’ 42-21 win against Detroit this weekend may have come at a heavy price. His top target, Davante Adams picked up a hamstring injury in the second half and did not return. Center Corey Linsley also left the game with a hand injury, which forced head coach Matt LaFleur to push right guard Lucas Patrick inside to fill in for one of the league’s top centers.

Adams has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and the soft-tissue variety are notorious for lingering for extended periods of time. The Packers have a decent wide receiver group, but the loss of Adams for any length will certainly have an impact on one of the league’s most explosive offenses this season.
The Rams also finished their win this week against Philadelphia with injuries to top draft pick, running back Cam Akers, as well as starting left guard Joe Noteboom.
Akers doesn’t appear to be a critical loss for Los Angeles, as he has averaged just over three yards per carry on just 17 runs this season. Darrell Henderson picked up the slack against the Eagles with 81 yards and a touchdown in the team’s 37-19 win.
Packers, Rams Both Need to Stay Healthy
As long as Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy, the Packers have the look of a team that can build big momentum towards the end of the season. Both teams still have some weak spots defensively, but Rodgers’ experience and Green Bay’s depth relative to the Rams make them the more sound option of the two and a strong bet overall.
