Golf’s silly season begins in earnest at the QBE Shootout in Naples, Florida from the Tiburon Golf Club (Gold Course) where twelve duos will team up to compete for the crown.

The tandem of Matthew Wolff and Abraham Ancer are the slight favorites over Cameron Champ/Tony Finau and Bubba Watson/Louis Oosthuizen.

Super low scores are essential in order to win the QBE Shootout title, where last year Rory Sabbatini and Kevin Tway won with a three-round score of 31-under-par after rounds of 58-67-60. The first and final rounds are where the low scores occur with a scramble format and the final day four-ball format.

Niemann and Munoz are Birdie Makers

In this format, where tons of birdies and eagles are required to keep up with the competition, it’s important to back players who are capable of making plenty of them. The tandem of Joaquin Niemann and Sebastian Munoz may not be households names, but they fit the bill really well.

Niemann has extra motivation as well, with his one month old cousin battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which saw him donate 100% of his prize money from his T-23 showing at last week’s Mayakoba Classic.

The Chilean sensation is T-13 in birdie or better average on the campaign with his partner Sebastian Munoz ranking T-32 last season.

Apart from a T-44 showing at the RSM Classic, Niemann hasn’t been worse than T-27 in his last eight events, and as the fifth favorites on the board, you’re getting slightly more value than the betting favorites Matthew Wolff and Abraham Ancer.

1. Matt Kuchar/Harris English (+850): This duo has prevailed twice at this tournament, in 2013 and 2016. They’ve also finished second twice, in 2014 and 2015. English has made 13 of his last 14 cuts, with ten top-20 finishes in that span.
2. Harold Varner III/Ryan Palmer (+1400): Last year this tandem finished in a tie for third here with a score of -28. In the early going of the 2020-21 season, Palmer ranks second on tour in birdie or better percentage at 29.76% which is critical for success at the QBE Shootout. Palmer has had recent success in team competition as well, winning the 2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Jon Rahm.
3. Rory Sabbatini/Kevin Tway (+1600): Considering they just won this event last year, you’d think Rory Sabbatini and Kevin Tway would have a bit more respect from the book heading into this tournament, but they have the second longest odds this week. The main reason for that is Tway’s struggles on the season, but in a team format on a course they blitzed last year, these are intriguing odds.
