Before the 2020/21 campaign started, La Liga was not shaping up to have the most entertaining season. Real Madrid and Barcelona seemed to both be on downward spirals, while Diego Simeone’s tactics at Atletico looked to be done and dusted. However, with nine games remaining as La Liga approaches Matchday 30, the title race could not be more entertaining.
Currently, Atletico have the lead in the La Liga title race by a mere point ahead of their game against sixth-placed Real Betis on Monday afternoon. Sadly, Luis Suarez who has poured in 19 goals this year, will be out about three weeks with a muscle injury. Joao Felix also picked up a knock in the international break and it remains unsure if he will be available for the match. Without Felix or Suarez, the pressure will ultimately lie at the hands of Marcos Llorente to create for Los Rojiblancos.

Furthermore, if Atletico slips up, Barcelona could see themselves move into first place in La Liga if they win their massive battle against Real Madrid. Nonetheless, the Galacticos looked ruthless Tuesday night against Liverpool and will give Barcelona a good challenge. Finally, moving further down the table, Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Villarreal are all level on points for La Liga’s final Europa League spot. The leaders on goal difference, Real Sociedad, will be tested as they play away to Valencia on Sunday morning.
Valencia vs Real Sociedad Prediction
The first highlighted match of the La Liga Matchday 30 weekend features Valencia and Real Sociedad. Currently, Sociedad are feeling the pressure behind them, making this match against 12th-placed Valencia all the more important. Imanol Alguacil’s side started off the season with an incredible flurry of wins. However, since November 22nd, they have only won six matches. How they have somehow maintained their position in fifth place is truly incredible.
Real Sociedad are well-favored in this match, but honestly, for no good reason. If Valencia were not so inconsistent I would favor them to win. Instead, I think Sociedad’s stifling defense will see this game to a low scoreline.
My Pick: Under 2.5 total goals (-106)
Real Betis vs Atletico Madrid Prediction
Aside from a 1-0 victory featuring a Sergio Canales goal in 2019, Real Betis have failed to win this head-to-head fixture since 2011. In fact, they have not even managed a draw in three years. However, with a slew of injuries for Atletico Madrid, they have a chance to pull themselves higher up the La Liga table this weekend. Since their four-game win streak in late February, it has been a mixed bag for Real Betis with a win, loss, and draw in their last three La Liga matches.

Similarly, Atletico Madrid have also been faltering as of late, only winning three out of their last ten. As both Suarez and Felix look doubtful, Simeone’s tactics will be conservative and deliberate. Real Betis does not have a thrilling attack either so expect this to stay under 2.5 total goals and end in a disappointing stalemate.
My Pick: Draw moneyline (+210)
Celta Vigo vs Sevilla Prediction
Finally, the last match of La Liga Matchday 30 is between Celta Vigo and Sevilla on Monday evening. Sevilla are currently in a decently comfortable spot in the La Liga table, with not much risk of moving up or down. The same is true with Celta Vigo as they sit nine points off the next spot in seventh.

With that being said, these teams could take their foot off the gas as the season’s end approaches. Aside from a letdown against Dortmund in the Champions League, Sevilla have been playing well in La Liga. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo have only won three from 14. Expect Youseff En-Nesyri to have an impact on this game and lead Sevilla to three points.
My Pick: Sevilla moneyline (+155)
