China made a big move on Monday in the medal standings and is now within two medals of the United States for the overall lead. Team USA fell even further behind in the gold medal department, and will try on Tuesday (August 3rd) to chip away at the deficit which now stands at seven.
One athlete primed to help close the gap is track star Sydney McLaughlin, who is the favorite to take gold in the Women’s 400 meter Hurdles.
Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles Odds
Athlete | Odds |
---|---|
Sydney McLaughlin (USA) | -250 |
Femke Bol (NED) | +300 |
Dililah Muhammad (USA) | +550 |
Anna Cockrell (USA) | +6500 |
Janieve Russell (JAM) | +6500 |
Anna Ryzhykova (UKR) | +6500 |
Gianna Woodruff (PAN) | +10000 |
Viktoriya Tkachuk (UKR) | +10000 |
Odds as of August 2nd at DraftKings.
The U.S. actually has a chance to sweep the podium, as three of the four women with the shortest odds are American, but they’ll all be chasing McLaughlin.

The 21-year-old is the world record holder in the event, and coasted to the fastest qualifying time in the semifinals. This is her second trip to the Olympics, after becoming the youngest track and field athlete to compete since 1972 in Rio as a 17-year-old, and she recently defeated reigning Olympic champion Dililah Muhammad at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Femke Bol of the Netherlands also deserves consideration after going undefeated in the Diamond League season and boasting the fourth fastest time ever, but this race belongs to McLaughlin.
Pick: Sydney McLaughlin (-250)
Men’s Horizontal Bar Odds
Athlete | Odds |
---|---|
Daiki Hashimoto (JPN) | +110 |
Takeru Kitazono (JPN) | +380 |
Nikita Nagornyy (ROC) | +450 |
Brody Malone (USA) | +500 |
Tin Srbic (CRO) | +600 |
Milad Karimi (KAZ) | +900 |
Bart Deurloo (NED) | +1100 |
Tyson Bull (AUS) | +1500 |
Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto won the All-Around gold medal in Men’s Gymnastics earlier this week, and on Tuesday he goes for gold on the Horizontal Bar. The 19-year-old dazzled on the Horizontal Bar to help Japan win its third consecutive Olympic title, delivering a spectacular performance for the second time in three days.

His biggest competition is likely to come from his teammate Takeru Kitazono, but after what we saw this week, it’s hard to imagine anyone else executing a routine as difficult as Hashimoto’s.
One longshot to keep an eye on is Brody Malone of the U.S. The 21-year-old dominated the U.S. Olympic Trials after winning his second NCAA All-Around title and leading Stanford to a National Championship in April. He likely won’t challenge Hashimoto, but he’s a strong bet to medal if you can find a sportsbook that offers that prop.
Pick: Daiki Hashimoto (+110)
Men’s 109 kg Weightlifting Odds
Athlete | Odds |
---|---|
Simon Martirosyan (ARM) | -170 |
Akbar Djuraev (UZB) | +130 |
Hristo Hristov (BUL) | +1000 |
Timur Naniev (ROC) | +1200 |
Ali Hashemi (IRA) | +1800 |
Arturs Plesnieks (LAT) | +2000 |
Jin Yun-seong (KOR) | +2500 |
Wesley Kitts (USA) | +3500 |
The Men’s 109 kg Weightlifting event is setting up as a two-horse race. Reigning Olympic silver medalist Simon Martirosyan of Armenia is the favorite, however Uzbekistan’s Akbar Djuraev may be a better bet. A former junior world champion and record holder, he’s added 59 kg to his total since 2018, and boasts one of the strongest clean and jerks in the field.

Martirosyan meanwhile, may be the world record holder, but he’s not invincible. He was defeated at the 2021 European Championships after he failed to record a successful clean and jerk, and has been battling both a leg injury and legal troubles this year.
Pick: Akbar Djuraev (+130)
