Whatever the league position for both these teams coming into this game, El Clasico is generally a match to put recent form to one side and provide an entertaining display, with just two goalless draws so far this century.
As it stands, third-placed Real Madrid will travel to play seventh-placed Barcelona on Sunday, October 24th, with just two points between the sides in La Liga.
Real Madrid have certainly been the team in better form so far this season, and come into this game on the back of their midweek 5-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
Barcelona meanwhile, head into this crucial encounter having won back-to-back games for the first time all season, beating Valencia 3-1 last weekend before triumphing 1-0 over Dynamo Kyiv in midweek.

Madrid Getting Back to Full Strength
Carlo Ancelotti’s side got a big boost this week when it welcomed back left back Ferland Mendy into the team, for his first action since May. The France international lasted almost 70 minutes, and it will go a long way to give Madrid some balance in its backline, allowing someone like David Alaba to shift back over to center back alongside Eder Militao.

German international Toni Kroos also made just his second start of the season, and the midfield metronome played 77 minutes, which is an encouraging sign for Real fans ahead of Sunday’s game. The return of Kroos allowed the likes of Luka Modric to focus on the offensive side of things, and the results were certainly there in the team’s 5-0 victory.

Barca Boosted By Fati
Ronald Koeman’s attack has been given an extra option in recent weeks by the return of Ansu Fati from a knee injury. Fati has scored twice in five appearances so far this season, and though he came off the bench in Barcelona’s Champions League game this week, that appears to have been done by design to keep him fit for Sunday.
Ansu Fati has played 22 shots on target in his La Liga career so far. He’s scored 13 of that.

Sergio Aguero has also made appearances of late after missing most of the season with a calf injury. His availability here will be another shot in the arm for a Barcelona attack that is already missing Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembele. In their absence, stalwart Memphis Depay has struggled to carry the load by himself. Despite scoring four goals in 11 appearances, the Dutch international hasn’t scored from open play since the end of August.

However, there are also doubts over left back Jordi Alba, who injured in his foot in the Champions League win.

Madrid Looks To Regain Momentum
Before last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Espanyol, Madrid had gone 18 games unbeaten away from home in La Liga. Despite that setback, Ancelotti’s team has had the upper hand in recent seasons in this game, going four games unbeaten and winning the last three in a row.
Tomorrow will be the first league El Clásico since 2004 without either Sergio Ramos or Lionel Messi in the starting eleven.

Barcelona’s last victory over Madrid came in the Bernabeu in March, 2019, while its last home win over its biggest rival took place almost three years ago, when Luis Suarez scored a hat trick in a 5-1 demolition in October, 2018.
However, though Barca’s record in the past couple years hasn’t been great in this fixture, the club will be hoping that its historical superiority can give it an edge. Of the 117 Clasico’s played at Camp Nou, Barcelona have won on 60 occasions, with 26 draws, versus Madrid’s 26 victories.

On top of that, it will be hoping that a sold-out crowd, following a change in local COVID rules, can tilt the contest in its favor.
Best bets: Real Madrid (+150); Over +3.5 (+155)
