Barty Defeats 2021 Champion

After just about three months off, 25-year old Barty has made her way back, and has basically picked up right where she left off.

After a slight hiccup, losing the first set of her opening match at the tournament, Barty has yet to drop another set. Since defeating Gauff, she sent home sixth seed Sofia Kenin, and most recently fifth seed, and defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Barty headed into her semifinal match after recording a career-high 17 aces against Kenin.

In the semifinal match, Barty recorded 14 winners with 14 unforced errors, compared to Swiatek’s 13 winners and 28 unforced errors.

With her win over Swiatek, the Aussie earned a spot in her 20th WTA-level final, as she searches for her 14th title.

Rybakina’s Road to the Finals

The 22-year old has had herself an impressive week as well in Adelaide. She’s only dropped two sets on route to the final. One against Storm Sanders in the Round of 32, and Shelby Rogers in the quarterfinals.

Rybakina found herself up against unseeded Misaki Doi in the semifinals, and went on to defeat her 6-4, 6-3 in less than an hour and a half to her a spot in her 8th WTA singles final.

Rybakina managed nine aces in her semifinal win against Doi. Her serving has been a key part of her wins this week, as she’s recorded a total of 31 aces this week.

This will be the first championship final for Rybakina in a total of 15 months, as she looks to win her third title.

Head-to-Head

This is technically the third time these two have played each other. But the last time the Barty and Rybakina saw each other, Rybakina retired from the match before it started, leading to a walkover,  which didn’t count towards a win for Barty . This was during the Round of 16 at the 2020 WTA Qatar Open.

Their other match was earlier in 2020 at the Australian Open, where Barty won in straight set in the Round of 32.

Best Bet

Barty looks to be in unbreakable form at the moment. There were conversations on whether or not she would be able to come out the gate as strong as she’s been after taking just over three months off.

But she has since silenced anyone who doubted anything about her abilities.

The Australian is entering this final match as the favorite, and has shown us she deserves that. Her overall game is so strong. Her serving has been on top notch, and she’s been playing all over court with the variety she always bring.

Rybakina, on the other hand has played very well this week. Well enough to earn her spot in the finals. Due to upsets earlier in the week, Rybakina has definitely had a different route than expected. Barty will be the one and only seeded players she will have seen all tournament.

The 22-year old should be able to match Barty in power, but the variety that Barty will bring could throw Rybakina’s game a bit. She’ll have to stay on her toes in order to go head-to-head with the World No. 1.

Don’t be surprised if this is a tight match, but look to Barty to come out on top and earn her first title of her season here in Adelaide.

Best Bet: Barty 2-0 (-150)
