As if the 1-1 New York Giants weren’t in a tough enough spot playing the TNF game on the road against the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers, the news on the Giants vs 49ers injury reports & inactives front is making matters worse.
New York is going into the game minus four starters. Three of them are on offense, including RB Saquon Barkley, the catalyst for everything New York likes to do when in possession of the ball. He’s out with an ankle injury.
San Francisco, set as a 10.5-point home favorite in the Giants vs 49ers odds, is awaiting word on WR Brandon Aiyuk. He’s a game-time decision due to a shoulder ailment.
So far in the Giants vs 49ers public betting splits, the 49ers are getting the vast majority of ATS handle (58% as 3-point road favorites) as well as most of the moneyline action (96% as -10.5-point home favorites).

Giants Missing Four Key Players
Along with Barkley, 40% of the Giants’ starting offensive line is also out. LT Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and LG Ben Bredeson (concussion) won’t be playing. That’s disconcerting facing a San Francisco defensive squad that was #1 in the NFL last season.
The Giants will be missing both Saquon Barkley and starting LT Andrew Thomas against the 49ers.
This is hugely problematic for a team that already allowed 39 pressures and 7 sacks against the Cowboys and whose QB, Daniel Jones, has one of the slowest release times in the NFL

On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants are without SLB Azeez Olujari (hamstring), while RILB Micah McFadden (neck) is questionable. Considering that Jarrad Davis (ankle) is on IR, the Giants are growing thin at LB.Â
New York Giants Injury Report
Player-Position | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|
Saquon Barkley-RB | Ankle | Out |
Andrew Thomas-T | Hamstring | Out |
Ben Bredeson-G | Concussion | Out |
Azeez Olujari-LB | Hamstring | Out |
Micah McFadden-LB | Neck | Questionable |
Wan’Dale Robinson-WR | Knee | Questionable |
Jarrad Davis-LB | Ankle | Out (IR) |
Aaron Robinson-CB | Knee | Out (PUP) |
Olujari, who had 5.5 sacks in just five starts last season, has only played one game so far this season. He was also inactive for last week’s win at Arizona.
Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) is listed as questionable. However, he’s trending toward seeing his first action of the 2023 season.
Aiyuk Big Part of 49ers Offense
Although they’re only showing one key player on the Giants vs 49ers injury reports, Aiyuk has proven to be a valuable asset for the 49ers so far this season. Through two games, he’s caught 11 passes for a 15.6-yard per-catch average and two touchdowns. He played much of Sunday’s 30-23 win at the Los Angeles Rams while nursing his ailing shoulder. Aiyuk returned to action after being helped off the field.

Aiyuk also caught a TD pass the last time San Francisco was facing New York, so he might’ve been a handy guy to have for the Giants vs 49ers player props.
San Francisco 49ers Injury Report
Player-Position | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|
Brandon Aiyuk-WR | Shoulder | Questionable |
Ambry Thomas-CB | knee | Questionable |
Danny Gray-WR | shoulder | Out (IR) |
Samuel Womack-CB | knee | Out (IR) |
Darrell Luter Jr-CB | knee | Out (PUP) |
Robert Beal Jr-DE | hamstring | Out (IR) |
Backup RCB Ambry Thomas (knee) is questionable for the 49ers. However, he’s expected to play, which is good news for San Francisco. Fellow reserve CB Samuel Womack (knee) was placed on IR earlier this week.
How Could Injuries Affect Giants vs 49ers Betting Lines?
The rash of injuries to key Giants players is already impacting the betting line. It’s jumped up a half point since news came out that the four starters would all be missing from the New York lineup.
Barkley’s impact as a run/pass threat simply can’t be replaced. Last season, Barkley had 352 touches. That was the third-most of any NFL player. Through two games this season, he was on pace for 323 touches.
Without Barkley, Matt Breida moves into the starting role. He played for the 49ers from 2017-19, rushing for 814 yards and a 5.3 per-carry average in 2018. Gary Brightwell also figures to see significant playing time. He’s played 32 games over three NFL seasons, but has never started.
Along the offensive line, second-year tackle Joshua Ezeudu will make his second straight start at LT. It will be the fourth starting assignment of his NFL career. At left guard, Shane Lemieux steps in for Bredeson. He started nine games as a rookie in 2020, but just two since. Of particular concern is that G Wyatt Davis (ankle) is already on IR and Lemieux is the only health backup the Giants have to cover at center.
Jihad Ward will start for Olujari. The eight-year veteran has started 27 games in his career, including 11 for the Giants last season.
If Aiyuk can’t go, journeyman veteran Ray-Ray McCloud and rookie Ronnie Bell are options to fill his spot.
