After Sepp Straka won his third event at The American Express, the PGA Tour heads to Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open. Of note, this tournament begins a day earlier than typical tournaments on Wednesday, so it can conclude Saturday to avoid the NFL’s Championship games Sunday. The first two rounds see the field competing on the North and South courses, and those who make the cut play the final two rounds on the much more difficult South track. This event used to be Tiger Woods’ personal playground, but the quality of the field isn’t what it once was in 2025.

Scottie Scheffler (hand) still hasn’t teed it up in 2025. Hideki Matsuyama, who won the season opener at the Sentry, is +1000 co-favorite with rising star Ludvig Aberg. They’re the only two players in the top-ten of the world rankings teeing it up.

Stephan Jaeger Out to Avenge Loss Last Year

Stephan Jaeger found himself straight in the mix at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2024, as he was the 54-hole leader. He eventually wound up in a tie for third, as he was unable to secure his first PGA Tour victory. He claimed that elusive title a few months later at the Houston Open, clipping Scottie Scheffler by one stroke.

Past Five Farmers Insurance Open Winners

Year Winner
2024 Matthieu Pavon
2023 Max Homa
2022 Luke List
2021 Patrick Reed
2020 Marc Leishman

Not only was he close here a year ago, Jaeger very nearly won his last time teeing it up at the Sony Open, finishing one shot out of a playoff. Just three times before that, the German found himself as the runner-up at the Black Desert Championship. Because he’s not a household name, his odds are higher than what they should be, and at +6000 over at DraftKings, you can get him at tremendous value.

Farmers Insurance Open 2025 Predictions, Picks and Value Bets

  1. Patrick Rodgers (+7500): Patrick Rodgers has done everything but win on the main circuit with four career runner-ups, but the former amateur world #1 seems destined to finally get it done at some point. These are intriguing odds, given that he’s he’s posted three top-10s at this championship, including a T-9th last year, and ended 2024 with four top-25s in five tournaments.
  2. Justin Lower (+9000): Justin Lower has been knocking on the door of late, racking up three top-5s in his last five starts. That includes a tie for third at the American Express, where he was in contention all the way to the end.
  3. Taylor Moore (+10000): Taylor Moore is a great longshot bet to win or place in the top 10/20 range. He’s coming off a tie for seventh at last weeks American Express and had a very respectable tie for eleventh at this event in 2023.
