  • The Dodgers survived with a win last night
  • Can the Blue Jays become the first home team to win a World Series Game 7 since 2011?
  • Read below for my Dodgers vs Blue Jays predictions as well as the closing odds for Game 7

It all comes down to this. The Los Angeles Dodgers look for their third road win of the World Series to shock the Toronto Blue Jays and win their second consecutive Fall Classic. On the other side, the Blue Jays look for the franchise’s third World Series – their first since 1993. Game 7 takes place at Rogers Centre in Toronto at 8 PM ET on Saturday, November 1st.

Both teams are trotting out future Hall of Famers on the mound. The Dodgers are rolling with Shohei Ohtani, while the Blue Jays are opting to go with Max Scherzer in what could be his final MLB start.

Continue reading for my Dodgers vs Blue Jays predictions. I have also provided the latest odds for the winner-take-all game.

Dodgers vs Blue Jays Predictions for Game 7

  • Strikeouts Galore
  • Shohei Ohtani Over 3.5 Strikeouts (Pitching) (-145, BetMGM)
  • Max Scherzer Over 2.5 Strikeouts (-165, Caesars)

In a do-or-die game where any swing could be the most important of the season, I expect the pitchers to have the advantage early. The only doubt I have in the overs for both Ohtani and Scherzer is the early hook that either could have.

Strikeout MarketShohei OhtaniMax Scherzer
OverO 3.5 (-145, BetMGM)O 2.5 (-165, Caesars)
UnderU 4.5 (-145, Fanatics)U 3.5 (-160, BetMGM)

In 2019, both Max Scherzer and Zack Greinke made it through five innings. However, in 2017, neither Lance McCullers or Yu Darvish finished even the third inning as both the Astros and Dodgers dipped into the bullpen early.

Ohtani has thrown six innings in all three of his playoff outings, striking out no fewer than six batters in each start. He is unlikely to throw six innings, barring a perfect outing, because he is on short rest. Ohtani only has one career outing on three days’ rest – an April 2023 start after an abbreviated start his outing before.

Scherzer will make his sixth do-or-die start of his career, joining a World Series Game 7, an ALCS Game 7, an NLDS Game 5, and two single-game Wild Card outings. Scherzer’s teams are 4-1 in these games.

A free agent at year’s end, this could be the last start of the 41-year-old’s illustrious career. Already a two-time World Series champion, this could be the final stamp on a legendary career.

  • George Springer’s Experience is Key
  • George Springer Over 0.5 Total Bases (-180, Fanatics)

Springer is banged up at the moment, but he is the one position player with Game 7 experience, playing in both the 2017 and 2019 iterations. In 2017, he launched a pair of extra-base hits, including a game-wrecking home run to put the Astros up 5. In 2019, Springer drew a walk (off Scherzer) for his only time reaching in five plate appearances.

Despite the not-so-clean bill of health, Springer is an era-defining playoff performer. He has 23 career playoff home runs, with seven coming in the World Series. In 84 World Series plate appearances, Springer is slashing .338/.440/.746, marks equaled by only Reggie Jackson.

In Game 7 of the ALCS, Springer launched the all-important, score-reversing home run to send the Blue Jays to the World Series. What will he do in his third career World Series Game 7?

  • It’s Sho-Time
  • Shohei Ohtani Hits+Runs+RBIs Over 2.5 (+101, DraftKings)

Perhaps more important than his pitching, Shohei Ohtani has been the engine of a scuffling Dodgers offense. Ohtani is the only Dodger with an OPS above .775 in the World Series. He has reached by in half of his plate appearances, drawing eight walks in addition to his seven hits (six for extra bases).

The Blue Jays have shown they are comfortable walking Ohtani in key situations, but this can be a double whammy if the Dodgers find any production after Ohtani in the order due to Ohtani’s exceptional base-running chops.

In the NLCS closeout game, Ohtani went 3-for-3 with three home runs and a walk. On the mound, he dealt six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and only five base runners allowed. Can he flash that once-in-a-millenium talent again in the game’s biggest spot?

Dodgers vs Blue Jays, Latest Odds Game 7

Betting MarketDodgersBlue Jays
Runline-1.5 (+118, FanDuel)+1.5 (-130, Caesars)
Moneyline-133 (ESPNBet)+130 (Caesars)
TotalO 7.5 (-115, Fanatics)U 8 (-113, NorthStar Bets)

The books have the Dodgers as slight road favorites for Game 7 with the total at either 7.5 or 8 runs. Over bettors can take over 7.5 at Fanatics for -115 odds. Under bettors can take under 8 at NorthStar Bets for -113 odds.

Los Angeles bettors should take the Dodgers at -1.5 on the run line (+118 at FanDuel) or -133 on the moneyline at ESPN Bet. Toronto bettors should take the Blue Jays +1.5 on the run line (-130 at Caesars) or +130 on the moneyline, also at Caesars.

Since the opening lines dropped, the Dodgers named Shohei Ohtani as the starter as opposed to the probable Tyler Glasnow. Over 7.5 can now be had after the line was universally set at 8 runs. The Blue Jays have also grown in value with the moneyline moving from +112 to +130. The runline has moved from -149 to -130 (+1.5 runs) for some closing-line value.

On the Dodgers’ side, the moneyline is marginally more profitable with some line shopping as the odds dropped from -137 to -133. The runline, however, has swung in the other direction, losing slight value from +122 to +118.
