It’s an NFC blockbuster on Sunday Night Football in Week 11, as the Lions (6-3, 3-2 away) visit the Eagles (7-2, 3-1 home). Online sportsbooks are siding with Philly per the latest SNF odds, but I’m skipping the spread entirely and focusing on the total in my Lions vs Eagles predictions.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 pm ET from Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia, PA, with NBC providing the broadcast coverage.

Lions vs Eagles Predictions and Picks

My favorite Lions vs Eagles pick is under 47 points. Both teams feature extremely strong defenses, and I have serious questions about both offenses.

Let’s start with Detroit. Defensively, they’re fourth in success rate and sixth in EPA/play. They have one of the best pass rushers in football in Aiden Hutchinson, and plenty of space eaters on the interior to squash enemy rushing attacks.

Offense has been the team’s calling card since Jared Goff arrived, but they got off to a slow start this season in the wake of OC Ben Johnson leaving for Chicago. That changed last week, as Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties and started playing the hits from the 2024 season.

The Lions put up 44 points in a route of Washington, looking the part of a Super Bowl odds contender. It’s one thing to hang a 40-burger on one of the league’s worst defenses, but let’s see how they fare against a fellow championship contender.

Philadelphia smartly addressed some of their defensive concerns before the trade deadline, and looked like world beaters on Monday Night Football versus the Packers. They held Green Bay, a top-five offense by most advanced metrics, to only 7 points. The Eagles lived in the Packers’ backfield all night, making Jordan Love’s life a nightmare.

Philly finished with 21 pressures, 8 QB hits and three sacks. Pressure is the key to neutralizing this Lions offense, as Goff typically melts under the heat. His completion rate is just 50% under pressure this season, compared to 83% when kept clean. Goff has thrown only one touchdown under duress and has been picked off twice.

The Eagles were already stout in the interior with Jalen Carter, but the addition of Jaelan Phillips on the outside, and the return of Nolan Smith Jr. from injury makes this defense as fierce as any.

They’re in position to succeed again on Sunday night, as the Lions’ offensive line is dealing with key injuries, and the team just put star tight end Sam LaPorta on IR.

Philly’s defense may have the look of a title contender, but the same cannot be said about their offense. The Eagles enter play 21st in offensive success rate, despite a roster featuring Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.

As the whole world knows thanks to Brown’s social media rants, Hurts has had a difficult time getting his playmakers the ball. This offense lacks creativity, and rarely does it do any of the things that elite units do, like run motion and play action.

Instead, they try to play ball control by lining up in heavy personnel packages. The problem with that is their offensive line is also banged up, which is limiting Barkley’s effectiveness. Philadelphia’s offense goes through sustained lulls nearly every game, and has finished with 17 or fewer points in three of their past five outings.

The lack of offensive creativity from the Eagles, coupled with both teams featuring strong defenses, leads me to under 47. Before making any Sunday Night Football wager, be sure to consult the best football betting apps, as multiple books have already dropped the total to 46.5.

DET Lions vs PHI Eagles Spread

BetMGM is one of the books that’s late to the party, as they’re still hanging a 47-point over/under. Spread-wise, the consensus is Philly -2.5, with Bet365 offering the shortest odds at -115.

Odds as of Nov.15. New customers can claim the Bet365 promo code and get a bonus to bet on SNF.

Per the NFL public betting percentages, unders have been profitable in Eagles games when facing stiff competition. Three of four games versus top-10 opponents have failed to clear the total, while the lone exception was a game versus the Rams that Philly was losing by 19 points in the third quarter.
