The No. 5 Los Angeles Rams travel to Seattle for an NFC Championship showdown against the top-seeded Seahawks at Lumen Field. Both teams released final injury reports on Friday with the Rams losing a key offensive lineman.

Seattle received great news when quarterback Sam Darnold was cleared from the injury report. Darnold dealt with an oblique injury all week but carries no game status into Sunday’s championship game. The Rams ruled out right tackle Rob Havenstein, while edge rusher Byron Young remains questionable.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Los Angeles takes a hit on the offensive line. Their pass rush status hangs in the balance with Byron Young’s availability uncertain heading into Sunday.

Rob Havenstein Out

Right tackle Rob Havenstein is out with an ankle injury. Havenstein was limited in practice all week before being ruled out Friday.

Losing Havenstein creates problems for the Rams’ protection scheme. Seattle can lean into pressure looks on the right side and force Los Angeles into quicker throws. Matthew Stafford may not get the time he needs for deeper routes to develop against Seattle’s pass rush.

The Rams averaged 382 total yards over their last three games compared to 394.6 for the season. They’ve been slightly less effective through the air recently, averaging 258.7 passing yards in their last three contests versus 268.1 for the year.

Byron Young Questionable

Edge rusher Byron Young is questionable with a knee injury after limited practice all week. Young leads the Rams with 12.0 sacks during the regular season along with 12 tackles for loss and 82 total tackles.

If Young can’t go or plays limited snaps, Seattle’s offense gets much simpler. Darnold won’t face the same consistent pressure and can play on rhythm without keeping extra protectors in. Young’s absence would be a massive blow to LA’s pass rush against a Seahawks offensive line that’s healthier than expected.

Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes practiced fully all week and is good to go. Safety Quentin Lake cleared an illness and will play. Outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart also practiced fully despite his knee injury.

Seattle enters healthier than they looked earlier in the week. Sam Darnold and Charles Cross both cleared the injury report, while the team activated two players from injured reserve.

Sam Darnold Cleared

Quarterback Sam Darnold carries no game status after dealing with an oblique injury all week. Darnold was limited in practice but told reporters Friday he’s felt “really good” heading into Sunday.

“Feel like the process is going right along where it should be,” Darnold said. “Feeling really good for Sunday.”

Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak echoed that optimism. “He looks like Sam, he looks healthy to me,” Kubiak said.

How Darnold Played Through Injury

Darnold didn’t throw a football the entire week before last Saturday’s divisional round game against San Francisco. He still went 12-of-17 for 124 yards with a touchdown in the blowout win.

The oblique injury limited Darnold’s practice all week as a precaution. Head coach Mike Macdonald said Darnold wouldn’t throw every ball in practice to ensure he’s as healthy as possible for the championship game.

Darnold threw for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions this season. The 28-year-old started all 17 regular-season games while leading Seattle to the NFC’s top seed.

Darnold’s Struggles vs LA

The Rams present a challenge for Darnold. He threw six interceptions in two games against Los Angeles this season while posting a 1-1 record.

Seattle won the second meeting in overtime after Darnold led a remarkable comeback. He threw the game-winning two-point conversion in OT to clinch the victory.

Charles Cross Returns

Left tackle Charles Cross cleared the injury report and will play. Cross missed three games earlier this season but practiced fully this week. His return solidifies Seattle’s offensive line against the Rams’ front.

Getting Cross back raises Seattle’s floor on offense. It helps them avoid the drive-killing sacks that can flip playoff games quickly.

Roster Moves

Seattle activated running back George Holani and tight end Elijah Arroyo from injured reserve. The team placed running back Zach Charbonnet on IR with an ACL tear, along with Bryce Cabeldue due to a knee injury.

Linebacker Chazz Surratt is out with an ankle injury. Backup offensive tackle Amari Kight is doubtful with a knee problem. Tackle Josh Jones and fullback Robbie Ouzts are both questionable.

Safety Coby Bryant returns after missing two games. Linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence and defensive tackle Leonard Williams both practiced fully after rest days.

Division Rivals Meet Again

Los Angeles owns a 3-2 record against Seattle in their last five meetings. The Rams scored 126 points in those games while the Seahawks posted 123.

This marks the first playoff game at Lumen Field with fans since January 2017. Seattle’s only other home playoff game since then came during the 2020 COVID season in an empty stadium.

The winner advances to Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Seattle enters as 2.5-point favorites with the total sitting at 46 points. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
