This year, yellow, lime or green is the betting favorite to douse the freshly minted Super Bowl winning coach of either the Seahawks or the Patriots, at a cool +220 odds.

Gatorade Colors to Consider

This tradition has been around since Super Bowl 35, and during this 25-year run, no team has tasted victory more frequently than the New England Patriots, who have six titles during their eight Super Bowl appearances.

Surprisingly, three times there was no Gatorade shower — which, kind of makes sense because the Belichick Patriots didn’t like to actually have fun.

After that, the Patriots went blue during wins in Super 49 and 53. New England broke the back-to-back no Gatorade celebration with a clear shower in Super Bowl 39.

Seattle has only been to the big dance once, and came away with an absolute throttling of the Broncos in Super Bowl 48. Perhaps a little surprising, the Seahawks dumped orange on Carroll, and not the yellow or lime, which matches the Hawks and their hyper-coloured uniform

Prior to the Eagles win, the Chiefs used purple in back-to-back title wins, and then Blue went back-to-back and three of the four, with an orange shower from the Chiefs in Super Bowl 54. As the table below illustrates, it’s ben nothing but even throughout the years.

Surprising that in the entire Super Bowl Gatorade shower era, not one coach has been doused in the red/pink colour.

If New England wins, I think the color of Gatorade will match their colour scheme. As they’ve done blue and clear/white,min previous celebrations, there’s an opportunity here to go outside the box and choose red/pink — the one shade that would fill out the Patriots’ colour map.

If Seattle were to win, I think the the natural Gatorade color would be yellow/lime or green, to match the uniform and that hyper yellow-greenish colour they use for cleats and gloves, bringing the uniform colors to life.

But the ‘Hawks went orange in their lone SB title run. If it was to troll the Broncos, who have orange as their color scheme, then a clear, blue or red might be in the works.

If purple, clear, blue or yellow get poured on Feb 8, it will move into a tie with Orange as the most frequent Gatorade color doused, at five.

The last Patriots win was blue, and blue has gone on to be the most used since Super Bowl 53, with three in the last seven seasons. That’s where we’ll plant our flag too.
