NBA MVP Odds Movement Timeline
- March 5: Cade Cunningham is now an overwhelming favorite to win the 2025 Most Improved Player award. With odds as high as +2700 back in October, Cunningham is now averaging -458 to win the MIP award. Also in the mix is Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels, who’s moved form +11250 to a current +357.
2024 NBA Most Improved Player Odds
Notes on the NBA Most Improved Player odds movement over the course of the 2023-24 season include:
- Mar. 26, 2024: Odds have fluctuated since January, but Tyrese Maxey (-202) remains the favorite to win the 2024 Most Improved Player award.
- Jan. 12, 2024: Maxey (-239) remains the heavy favorite but Sengun (+257) has shot up the NBA MIP odds to second with Barnes (+1500) now a distant third.
- Nov. 4, 2023: Averaging 27.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 5.8 APG so far, Tyrese Maxey has emerged as the +220 favorite to in the NBA Most Improved Player odds.
- Oct. 26, 2023: Bridges (+900) remains the favorite by Tyrese Maxey (+1050) is now the second-favorite and only a short ways behind Bridges.
- July 10, 2023: Budding superstar Mikal Bridges (+667) has opened as the favorite in the 2024 NBA Most Improved Player odds with Cade Cunningham (+1400) a distant second-favorite.
2023 NBA Most Improved Player Odds

- Mar. 5: Lauri Markkanen is at a season-best -300 while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+300) and Jalen Brunson (+350) are the only other players shorter than +5000.
- Jan. 24: Lauri Markkanen (-130) took over as favorite from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+130). Third-favorite Jalen Brunson is all the way back at +1400.
- Jan. 12: Gilgeous-Alexander (-110) continues to lead the way, but Lauri Markkanen is now a very close second-favorite at +110, improving from roughly +500 in mid-December.
- Dec. 5: Gilgeous-Alexander is padding the stat sheet on a nightly basis and, despite OKC sitting 13th in the West, has emerged as the odds-on MIP favorite at -155.
- Nov. 7: Less than a month into the season, Tyrese Maxey has emerged as the +300 favorite after opening the season at +2900. Lauri Markkanen (+650) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+850) round out the top three.
- August 28: Coming off a career-best season, former #1-overall pick Anthony Edwards has opened as the +1100 MIP favorite.

- [Mar 29] Although he may not return for the rest of the regular season games, Ja Morant’s average odds remain a heavy -8000
- [March 11] Ja’s grip on the award continues to strengthen
- [March 2] Morant is a near lock for this award, as he’s also in to the top five of the MVP odds
- [Feb 17] Both Desmond Bane and Miles Bridges have seen their odds fade, while Morant remains odds-on favorite
- [Feb 9] Nobody is contesting Ja Moran’t case at the moment, he’s still a heavy odds-on favorite
- [Feb 3] Morant remains odds-on favorite, while Darius Garland’s recent injury has lengthened his odds
- [Jan 27] It seems hard to believe anyone will catch Morant, as his odds have shortened further
- [Jan 19] Morant is playing at a near MVP level and remains odds-on favorite for MIP, while Darius Garland and the Cavs keep rolling – his odds have improved to an average of around +1000 at most books
- [Jan 12] The Grizzlies have gone 20-4 since the night of Ja Morant’s injury, and his returned has pushed them to new heights fresh off a win against the Warriors on Tuesday night. Morant is the odds-on favorite to win the award
- [Dec 23] Bridges is still the favorite, while Dejounte Murray’s price continues to shorten as he’s having a breakout year with the Spurs
- [Dec 20] Miles Bridges remains the favorite in the MIP race
- [Dec 10] Bridges odds continue to shorten, now at an average of +198 as Morant remains out
- [Dec 3] With Ja Morant out due to his knee injury, Miles Bridges has moved ahead of Morant as the favorite
- [Nov 17] Bridges and Morant remain the runaway favorites, at average odds of +300 and +230, respectively
- [Nov 9] Morant continues to play well, while Miles Bridges has turned heads early in Charlotte, as he’s averaging over 20 points per night through three weeks of the season
- [Nov 5] Ja Morant looks to have taken that 3rd year leap to begin the season for Memphis, averaging 27/5/7 on over 50% from the floor to begin the year. His odds have shortened down from +1950 to +375 on average
- [October 15] Can MPJ win as the favorite going in to the season? His odds have faded with tip-off near
- [October 5] Zion Williamson’s odds have dropped with news of him recovering from offseason surgery coming out this week
- [August 16] With all the young talent around the league, MIP for the 2021-22 season is a wide open race. Porter Jr, SGA and Zion are the favorites, with contenders from last year in Zach LaVine, Collin Sexton and Christian Wood also near the top of the board

2021 NBA Most Improved Player Odds
- [May 18] With the regular season wrapped up, Randle is still a significant favorite at average odds of -8000
- [May 11] Just give Randle the award now, as his odds have shortened to an average of -9000
- [May 4] With Julius Randle now challenging for 1st or 2nd team All-NBA honors, the MIP award may seem like a consolation prize to him, at average odds of -1900
- [April 27] Randle continues to be a heavy favorite, at average odds of -550
- [April 22] Julius Randle has led the Knicks to a current top four seed in the Eastern Conference, and his odds have continued to shorten in the MIP race, now at an average of -495
- [April 15] With his improved play and Jamal Murray’s injury, Michael Porter Jr. odds have jumped significantly, shortening to +1800 on average
- [April 8] Only a small move in the top contenders for Most Improved this week, as Zion Williamson saw his odds slightly shorten to +2400 from +2500
- [April 1] This is still a tight race, but Randle remains the odds-on favorite at an average of -155
- [March 24] Randle’s ascent is finally complete, as he is now the favorite at average odds of -121, while Jerami Grant has seen his price fade slightly to +118
- [March 16] Julius Randle nearly led the Knicks to an upset of the Nets on Tuesday night, and his average odds to win MIP continue to shorten, now at an average of +250
- [March 9] Randle’s odds have flattened some, while Grant is now a -230 favorite
- [March 3] The Knicks are .500, Julius Randle is an All-Star and Tom Thibodeau has NY abuzz. Randle’s MIP odds have followed suit, jumping Jaylen Brown and shorting to an average of +700
- [February 24] Fresh off an All-Star nomination, Julius Randle has also burst into the top five for Most Improved, now at odds of +2500. Grant remains the favorite.
- [February 16] Grant is now the odds-on favorite, and with Blake Griffin sitting out until he is dealt, Detroit’s offence should run purely through Grant in the foreseeable future
- [February 10] With Christian Wood back on the shelf due to an ankle injury, Jerami Grant is now the favorite at average odds of +100
- [February 4] Jerami Grant’s odds continue to shorten as he drives the bus for the Pistons averaging 23.7 PPG in Detroit – he’s at a price of +160. The Rockets are also running hot after the Harden trade, and Wood remains in pole position at odds of +138
- [January 19] With James Harden gone, Christian Wood is now the odds-on favorite, while Jerami Grant has improved to top contender with his expanded role on the Pistons, now at odds of +310
- [January 6] Christian Wood has broken out for the Houston Rockets, averaging 23.6 PPG and 10 RPG after signing his RFA deal with them this past offseason. His odds have shortened all the way down to +180 after opening at +3000
- [November 26] Denver’s tandom of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. have opened as favorites to win Most Improved Player this season.
