  • My college football DFS picks cover Saturday’s 12-game main slate and a $50,000 DraftKings cap
  • Cheap production at receiver is what funds the most expensive quarterback on the board
  • Keep reading for the full CFB DFS lineup, every salary and the reasoning on each pick

College football DFS asks you to fill a quarterback, two running backs, three receivers, a flex and a superflex while staying under a $50,000 salary cap. Saturday’s main slate gives you 12 games to work with, starting at noon ET on Oct. 10.

I built this one around workload. Two spots are cheap enough that I can still carry the priciest quarterback on the slate, and if you’re comparing DFS apps, these salaries are specific to DraftKings Classic.

Below is my Week 6 lineup, the build I weighed it against, and the reasoning behind all eight picks.

That comes to $49,900, leaving $100 unspent. Johnson is a tight end who carries receiver eligibility on DraftKings, which is how he fills the superflex spot.

The build I kept coming back to instead drops Roberts, moves Rule up to running back and spends $8,000 on Drew Mestemaker at superflex for exactly $50,000. Mestemaker has 1,271 passing yards and 11 touchdowns for an offense ranked second nationally at 548.3 yards per game, so passing on him is a real cost.

I’d still rather keep a back who has carried it 113 times. That version also pushes Hudson Clement into the flex, and he hasn’t held a steady role in the Illinois passing game this year. Rule is the one spot where I’d pivot if news changes, and Patrick Overmyer sits at the same $4,900 if you need the swap.

CFB DFS Picks: Michael Hawkins Jr. ($9,000)

  • Michael Hawkins Jr., West Virginia vs. Arizona

Hawkins has 574 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, tied for the national lead, plus 836 passing yards with seven scores and one interception. He has accounted for 18 of West Virginia’s 25 offensive touchdowns through five games.

The matchup is the catch. Arizona ranks 11th in the FBS against the run at 79 yards allowed per game, though its pass defense has been the softer half at 213.2. I’m paying the freight because Hawkins can score with either method.

CFB DFS Picks: Caleb Hawkins ($7,100)

  • Caleb Hawkins, Oklahoma State vs. UCF

Caleb Hawkins carried 31 times for 180 yards and a touchdown in the win over West Virginia. He leads the Cowboys with 441 yards on 83 carries and has chipped in 11 catches out of the backfield.

Oklahoma State opened as a double-digit home favorite in the college football odds. Two touchdowns in four games is light for a back with this workload, but the carries have been there every week.

CFB DFS Picks: Jamal Roberts ($7,500)

  • Jamal Roberts, Missouri vs. Texas A&M

Roberts ranks second nationally with 113 carries and sixth with 606 rushing yards, adding six touchdowns and a long run of 80. Missouri is 4-1 and ranked 14th heading into its noon kickoff.

Texas A&M allows 18.6 points per game, so this isn’t a soft spot. Roberts also has just eight catches, meaning nearly everything comes on the ground. I’ll take that volume at this price anyway.

CFB DFS Picks: Collin Dixon ($8,400)

  • Collin Dixon, Illinois at Michigan State

Dixon has 40 catches for 546 yards and eight touchdowns on 55 targets. That’s third in the Big Ten in both receptions and receiving yards, behind only Jeremiah Smith and KJ Duff.

He caught 10 balls for 116 yards and a score against Purdue last week in a loss. That steady workload is what I want from the top receiving salary in my CFB DFS lineup.

CFB DFS Picks: Kwazi Gilmer ($4,900)

  • Kwazi Gilmer, Nebraska vs. Indiana

Gilmer caught 11 of his 17 targets for 147 yards and two touchdowns against Maryland, his second straight 100-yard game. He leads Nebraska with 29 receptions, 387 yards and six scores, tied for sixth in the FBS in receiving touchdowns.

Nebraska is 5-0 and averaging 43.6 points per game, and Indiana arrives at No. 7 with a 21-game winning streak. At $4,900, Gilmer gives my DraftKings lineup an affordable receiver in a game both offenses should push.

CFB DFS Picks: Caleb Smith ($3,100)

  • Caleb Smith, Arizona at West Virginia

Smith is the punt that makes the rest work. The freshman has nine catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by four grabs for 86 yards and a 38-yard score at Washington State that earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week.

His snaps grew while Giovanni Richardson has been sidelined, and he already has a 69-yard punt return touchdown this season. At $3,100 I need one explosive play, not a full target share.

CFB DFS Picks: Jamal Rule ($4,900)

  • Jamal Rule, Nebraska vs. Indiana

Rule is reported available after missing the Maryland game with a lower-body issue, and Nebraska’s staff said he could have played if needed. The freshman has 333 rushing yards and five touchdowns at 7.9 per carry, plus 82 receiving yards and a score.

Indiana is the hardest run matchup on the board, surrendering 64.4 yards per game and 2.1 per carry. Nebraska splits carries among four backs too, so I’m buying the big-play rate here rather than projecting 20 touches.

CFB DFS Picks: Jamari Johnson ($5,000)

  • Jamari Johnson, Oregon vs. UCLA

Johnson has 11 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown in his two games this season. He opened with four receptions for 57 yards and a score, then returned from a two-game absence to post seven catches for 119 yards against USC.

Oregon hosts UCLA in the late window as a double-digit favorite at home. His role came back immediately after the layoff, and $5,000 for a target that size in that offense works for the superflex.
