  • Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the season with multiple blood clots in his lungs
  • This devastating news comes on the heels of the Eagles’ fourth straight loss and is the latest and worst injury to their nucleus, threatening to completely torpedo their season
  • Prediction markets for the Eagles NFC Odds have already dropped precipitously as traders react to the crushing season-ending report

The Philadelphia Eagles season took another downturn when the news broke that quarterback Jalen Hurts has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and is done for the year. Eagles NFC odds on prediction markets have quickly sunk in reaction to the devastating blow. Hurts’s season was already in doubt when the team returned from England after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5, and he was found to have a blood clot in his calf. More testing found clots in his lungs, ending his 2026 season and potentially the Eagles’ playoff hopes.

Philly fell to 2-4 after Sunday’s lackluster 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Still, in the mediocre NFC East, they have a chance to emerge from the muck. It was difficult to gauge backup QB Tanner McKee, who performed a reasonably mistake-free game. But the Eagles anemic offense, including the absence of star running back Saquon Barkley and an injury-decimated offensive line, was unable to generate much when they had the ball.

Prediction markets have the Eagles’ implied NFC East title probability cratering. Is that a knee-jerk reaction to the Hurts news? Will it stabilize when there is a larger sample size for McKee? Or is it going to stay in place as they prepare for three straight divisional games against the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants? Users can weigh in early in the immediate aftermath of the Hurts news.

Kalshi Eagles NFC East Odds Crash After Jalen Hurts News

The Eagles NFC East odds have plummeted in reaction to the season-ending news for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Down as much as 23% in implied probability, Philadelphia is now trading at just $0.11 to win the NFC East, per Kalshi prediction markets.

After entering the season as the favorite to retain their division crown, things have quickly gone from bad to worse in Philly, and their NFC East odds have completely flipped. Following the announcement that Hurts is out for the year, the Cowboys (42%), Giants (28%), and Commanders (20%) all have higher implied probabilities to win the division than the now last-place Eagles.

Can Eagles Win NFC East Without Hurts?

In short: YES!

Given the parity of the NFL and the NFC East looking like the weakest division in the league, a sub-.500 record could clinch the division title this season. Every team is flawed. The Cowboys are 2-4 and are again underachieving based on their talent level. The Giants are on the verge of starting newly acquired J.J. McCarthy at quarterback. And the Commanders are stumbling all over the place with injury-prone QB Jayden Daniels and head coach Dan Quinn rumored to be in trouble.

The division itself opens the door for the Eagles, but they’ll need to walk through it.

Hurts being done for the year is a huge loss. But he had not played well this season under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. The two were reportedly clashing before the diagnosis, with Mannion wanting Hurts to spend more time under center instead of the QB’s preferred shotgun and the offense not tailored to what’s worked for Hurts in the past. It certainly didn’t help that offensive lineman Lane Johnson abruptly retired, Barkley, Devonta Smith, and other key offensive components have been ailing, and they miss Hurts’s past antagonist A.J. Brown and his size and explosiveness.

In the moment, debates over why head coach Nick Sirianni would hire an OC who doesn’t fit what Hurts does well and poorly are pushed to the side with Hurts being lost for the season. Though he is largely unknown, Tanner McKee is more of a fit for Mannion’s offense as a big pocket passer with a flamethrower for an arm.

Nick Sirianni’s teams have tended to rally when they are challenged and backed against the wall, and Sirianni’s status is also uncertain. However, this isn’t about the long-term prospects. It’s about whether the Eagles can win a weak division with their backup QB. When looking at the competition, it’s not only possible, but there’s a reasonable argument that it’s likely. Given their low probability at the moment, there is huge profit to be had by saying they will emerge from the morass that is the NFC East.
