Sunday’s hockey card on Oct. 25 mixes an outdoor showcase with a handful of road spots worth a closer look. I went through the latest NHL Odds and Kalshi prices to find where the value sits, and a few matchups stood out right away.
The Heritage Classic headlines the day, with the Montreal Canadiens visiting the Winnipeg Jets at Princess Auto Stadium. It’s the game everyone will be watching, but the better prices on my board come from other matchups.
The New York Islanders head to Dallas for an interconference clash with the Stars. Out west, the Minnesota Wild visit a Vancouver Canucks team searching for answers, and Colorado travels to Nashville. My NHL picks today are below, along with score projections for the full slate.
NHL Picks Today
NHL Pick #1: Avalanche vs Predators (Avalanche -1.5)
- Avalanche -1.5 (47¢ / (+113) on Kalshi)
My first NHL pick today backs Colorado to win by multiple goals in Nashville. Nathan MacKinnon has 7 goals and 13 assists through 11 games, and he piled up four points in Friday’s 6-3 win over Tampa Bay. That 20-point start is worth tracking alongside the Hart Trophy Odds.
He’s hardly the only threat. Artturi Lehkonen has 9 goals and Martin Necas has 14 points. As a team, Colorado averages 30 shots per game while allowing just 27.9. The power play is converting at 20%, so this pick leans on 5-on-5 volume rather than special teams.
Nashville sits on the wrong side of the shot battle, generating 24.9 per game while giving up 30.1. The Preds are also on the second half of a back-to-back after Saros started Saturday, so keep an eye on their projected goalie before puck drop.
Kalshi has this contract at 47¢, which implies roughly a 47% chance before fees. A winning contract pays $1, and a -1.5 puck line only cashes if Colorado wins by two goals or more.
NHL Pick #2: Wild vs Canucks (Wild -1.5)
- Wild -1.5 (43¢ / (+113) on Kalshi)
My Wild vs Canucks pick starts with Vancouver’s troubling shot numbers. The Canucks average 20.1 shots per game and allow 33.5, and they’ve won just twice at 2-9-1. Their penalty kill sits at 65%, killing off only 26 of 40 chances against.
Minnesota flips that profile, putting up 31.1 shots per game and allowing 25.6. Kirill Kaprizov has 12 goals in 12 games, and the Wild rolled Seattle 5-1 on Saturday with Wallstedt picking up the win.
Yes, the Wild are playing on back-to-back nights. But the shot gap between these teams is too wide for me to pass on a 44¢ contract, which translates to about a 44% implied chance of a multi-goal Minnesota win.
NHL Pick #3: Islanders vs Stars (Islanders Moneyline)
- Islanders Moneyline (38¢ / (+163) on Kalshi)
I’m taking a position on New York to wrap up my NHL picks today. The Islanders (5-3-2) have earned points in five straight games, going 3-0-2 in that stretch. Their penalty kill is humming at 88.2%, with 30 kills on 34 chances.
Dallas (6-3-1) is the hotter team with four straight wins, which is why New York carries a longer price. The crease is the swing factor. Ilya Sorokin owns a .934 save percentage over seven starts, but projected lineups differ on whether he or Varlamov gets the nod.
Either way, the 38¢ contract implies about a 38% chance. With New York’s point streak and a penalty kill that limits Dallas’ chances with the man advantage, I’m happy to take the underdog in this interconference matchup.
